ROLL CALL
PRESENTATIONS
1. Receive Update on Monterey Public Library Friends & Foundation Activities (Not a
Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5,
Section 15061) Foundation board members Allie Ladio and Shannon Conner
shared updates about the MC Gives campaign which currently is $85,000
surpassing the $70,000 goal with 204 donors so far, more than we have seen in
prior years. They reviewed funding categories such as funds for collections, zip
books, furniture, lighting, makerspace improvements, author talks in larger
venues, and improvement to the sound system in the community room. They also
shared that they would be tabling at the Big Sur Marathon in April. Discussion
about possibly scheduling more Dine Around Town events such as Sovino Wine
Bar. Discussion on the need to recruit board members for the next year, the
foundation will work on creating descriptions of the roles needed during
recruitment. For Chocolate and Wine 2026 updates Allie and Shannon shared that
there are less food vendors this year so there will be more of a potluck from
foundation members. Trustee Moroh asked fellow trustees to please donate at
least one bottle of wine for the event.
2. Receive Update on Library Hold Pickup Lockers (Not a Project under CEQA per Article
20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Assistant Library
Director demonstrated the bilingual marketing materials and videos created to
highlight the roll out of the Library Lockers which launched on January 20, 2026.
Mejia explained that staff will be visiting the lockers 2-3 days a week to fill in items
while also picking up items that are being dropped off. Mejia explained that there
is a QR code on the lockers for folks to scan if they need extra information about
how the lockers operate. The QR code directs them to the website page for the
lockers which also contains FAQ's. Trustee Petty asked if the library is
considering putting some of these lockers in front of the library to allow for 24/7
pick up, Mejia stated that during this time we were not exploring this but that the
Monterey Sports Center location is pretty close to the library and the best option
for patrons that need afterhours access to hold pickups.
