CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING CITY OF MONTEREY Wednesday, May 24, 2023 4:00 PM 7:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBER MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Councilmembers Present: Absent: Barber, Garcia, Haffa, Smith, Williamson City Staff Present: TELECONFERENCE NOTICE * Attended remotely by teleconference at the duly noticed teleconference location listed above ***ES*** This meeting was held with a combination of in-person and teleconference attendance, pursuant to the Ralph M. Brown Act, Calif. Gov. Code sec. 54953(b). CALL TO ORDER Mayor Williamson called the meeting to order at 4: p.m. He announced that Councilmember Smith was attending remotely. City Clerk Klein called the roll as highlighted above, and explained to the public how to participate in the meeting virtually. Councilmember Smith confirmed that he could hear the meeting proceedings, that the agenda had been posted 24 hours prior to the meeting at the teleconference location listed above, and that he was providing public access from the same location, pursuant to GC 54953(b)(3). He confirmed that no member of the public was present with him at the teleconference location wishing to speak. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE led the Pledge. PRESENTATIONS 1. Recognize National Public Works Week 2023 (Not a Project Under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and Under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Recognized National Public Works Week 2023 Public Works Director Renny and Engineering Projects Manager Rios gave the staff presentation and answered Councilmembers' questions. Receive Presentation on Reinvesting in the Monterey Sports Center: Emerging Trends Based on the Operational Assessment Sports Facilities Advisory (Not a Project Under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received presentation Parks and Recreation Director Larson, Sports Center Manager Willer, and consultant Suzy Fisher-Reeder of Sports Facilities Companies, gave the staff presentation and answered Councilmembers' questions. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission,committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items. 2. Receive Presentation on Reinvesting in the Monterey Sports Center: Emerging Trends Based on the Operational Assessment Sports Facilities Advisory (Not a Project Under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) ADJOURNMENT Members of the public have the right to address the City Council on any item on the Agenda, before or during its consideration [G.C. §54954.3(a)]. The Mayor will formally open the floor for public comment on items such as "Public Appearance" and "Public Hearings."
