On a motion by Commissioner Dawson, seconded by Commissioner Napoli, and carried by the following vote, the Historic Preservation Commission approved the March 14, 2019 HPC minutes as submitted. Action: Approved adoption of a historic preservation report and allowance of construction of a new accessory structure (art studio) at 62 Ave Maria Road. Staff Presentation/Commissioner Questions Associate Planner Chris Schmidt presented the Agenda Report and took Commissioners’ questions. Applicant Historic Consultant Kent Seavey said that in essence the project would remove no trees or shrubs and that this would allow Mr. Murray studio access when she grew older. He added that the accessory structure design was consistent with the character of the property. Public Comments None. Commissioner Comments Vice Chair Napoli moved to approve adoption of a historic preservation report and allow construction of a new accessory structure at the subject site. Action: Approved removal of the property at 739 Jessie Street from the New Monterey Reconnaissance Survey List. Staff Presentation/Commissioner Questions Associate Planner Chris Schmidt presented the Agenda Report and took Commissioners’ questions. Applicant Property owner Dave Fedor said that he loved his home, but due to required medical procedures, he would require a wheelchair and appropriate access to his home. He said that removing the property from the New Monterey Reconnaissance Survey List would allow him to make the necessary changes with ease. Commissioner Smith-Crivello commended the design of the ramp along the side of the home. Public Comments None. Commissioner Comments None. She asked if a report on historic houses in Monterey could be added to a future agenda, to which Ms. Caraker replied yes. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS 6. Planning Office Update Ms. Caraker said that she anticipated the updated Historic Preservation Ordinance would be ready for review by the HPC in the upcoming months. She also said that the museum at the Cooper Molera Adobe had been very successful thus far. Planning Office Update ADJOURNMENT ADJOURNMENT— The general policy of the Historic Preservation Commission is that the Afternoon Session will end no later than 6:30 p.m. Any public agenda items that have not been completed within the designated adjournment time may be formally extended by the Commission, or continued to the next regularly scheduled Historic Preservation Commission Meeting, or continued to a Special Meeting. Agenda packets may be reviewed by the public in the Monterey Public Library, in the Planning Office, or on the web at http://www.monterey.org/ beginning late Friday afternoon prior to the date of the meeting. Members of the public have the right to address the Commission on any Agenda items. The Chair will formally open the floor for public comment. However, if you wish to speak to items during "Consent Agenda" or "Staff Informational Report," please advise the staff or the Chair prior to the action on that item and you will be recognized. Notification as much in advance as possible is appreciated. Information distributed to the Commission at the meeting becomes part of the public record. A copy of written material, pictures, etc. should be provided to the Secretary for this purpose. Historic Preservation Commission decisions may be appealed within ten (10) days from the date of the decision on forms available in the Planning Division during business hours. When the tenth day falls on a weekend or a holiday, the appeal deadline date is the next working day following the holiday or weekend.
