MINUTES COLTON HALL MUSEUM AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Monday, July 25, 2016 4:00 PM CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, FEW MEMORIAL HALL OF RECORDS MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Commissioners Present: Dias, Castagna, Evans, Wall, Wojtkowski Commissioners Absent: Sovereign, Ruhnke Ex-Officio and Staff Community Services Director Kim Bui-Burton, Museums & Members Present: Cultural Arts and Archives Manager Dennis Copeland, Recording Secretary Claire Rygg Ex-Officio Commissioners are non voting members, appointed pursuant to MCC § 2-11. CALL TO ORDER 1. Introduction of New Commissioner John Castagna (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061.) Commissioner Castagna was welcomed by the Commission and staff. ROLL CALL CONSENT ITEMS Approval of Minutes 2. Monday, June 27, 2016 ACTION: Approved. On a motion by Commissioner_Evans, seconded by Commissioner Wojtkowski and carried by the following vote, the Colton Hall Museum and Cultural Arts Commission approved the minutes for June 27, 2016. Receive Museum and Cultural Arts Division Activity Report – June 2016 (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061.) Colton Hall Museum and Cultural Arts Commission Minutes Monday, July 25, 2016 Manager Copeland reviewed the staff report with the Commission and highlighted the diverse groups that visited Colton Hall, the high attendance at Colton Hall during the Fourth of July event, and the grant applications to Monterey Peninsula Foundation and the Community Foundation for Monterey County. PUBLIC APPEARANCE 4. Receive an Update Report from Bouchard–Battle of Monterey Bicentennial Subcommittee (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061.) The Commission received a copy of the latest update on the event. Commissioner Evans commented that author Michael Melzer (The Patriot Pirate) is interested in assisting with the event. Commissioner Wojtkowski requested that the Old Monterey Foundation (OMF), which is interested in the Bouchard Bicentennial, be invited to the next Commission meeting in August. 5. Receive Orientation and Training 2016 Program for Colton Hall Museum and Cultural Arts Commissioners (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061.) Director Bui-Burton presented the orientation and training program to the Commission. Commissioner Wojtkowski requested an update on the Path of History plan, a Neighborhood Improvement Program project. 6. Receive Report on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061.) Director Bui-Burton reviewed the report with the Commission and noted the important Master Plan elements supporting the arts and history interests of the Colton Hall Museum and Cultural Arts Commission. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Wojtkowski announced the third Marcia F. DeVoe lecture sponsored by OMF, “The Past, Present and Future of the Cooper-Molera Adobe” with presenters Michael Green, Interpretive Program Manager, Monterey State Historic Parks, and Katherine Malone-France of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The lecture will be held at the Middlebury Institute for International Studies’ Irvine Auditorium, McCone Building, August 18 at 6:00 pm. NEXT MEETING 7.
