MINUTES MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION 11/3/2022 4:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBER 580 PACIFIC STREET AND ZOOM TELECONFERENCE MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Commissioners present: Castagna, Evans, O’Neil, Peake, Sovereign* (arrived at 4:03 p.m.), Thomas, Wojtkowski Commissioner Absent: None Staff Present: Library & Museums Director, Administrative Assistant, Artifacts Specialist *Participated remotely by videoconference This meeting was held with a combination of in-person and teleconference attendance, pursuant to the Ralph M. Brown Act, Calif. Government Code section 54953(e)(1)(C) and the Council's resolution authorizing teleconference attendance at public meetings. CALL TO ORDER Chair Evans called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m. ROLL CALL CONSENT ITEMS On a motion by Commissioner Castagna, seconded by Commissioner Wojtkowski, and carried by the following vote, the Museums and Cultural Arts Commission approved the Consent Items: AYES: 7 COMMISSIONERS: Castagna, Evans, O’Neil, Peake, Sovereign, Thomas, Wojtkowski NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: NONE ABSENT: 0 COMMISSIONERS: NONE ABSTAIN: 0 COMMISSIONERS: NONE RECUSED: 0 COMMISSIONERS: NONE Approval of Minutes 1. October 6, 2022 (Not a project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Approved as corrected 2. Recommend Appropriation of $30,000 in Restricted Grant Funds from Museum Trust Fund (Not a project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Recommended ***End of Consent Agenda*** PUBLIC COMMENTS The administrative assistant explained to the public how to participate in the virtual meeting and provide public comment. Chair Evans opened public comments: no public comments. Museums and Cultural Arts Commission Minutes 11/3/2022 4:00 PM INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS 2. Receive Update from Library & Museums Director (Not a project under CEQA, per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Library & Museums Director Edwards updated the Commission on recent activities. There was no public comment on the matter. 3. Receive Museums and Cultural Arts Division Activity Report (Not a project under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Artifacts Specialist Leininger reviewed the October activity report. There was no public comment on the matter. PUBLIC APPEARANCE 4. Select Ad-Hoc Subcommittee for Extended Path of History Project (Not a project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received, discussed, and appointed Edwards reviewed the Path of History project. Chair Evans appointed Thomas, Wojtkowski, and himself to the Path of History ad hoc subcommittee. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Peake thanked fellow Commissioners for the condolence card. Castagna asked about the challenge of standing committees versus ad hoc committees. He commented that the MC Weekly has an article about the Pat Hathaway collection. Wojtkowski announced that MMHA is having a mixer at Casa Serrano this Sunday afternoon. Thomas announced new walking tours he is leading. Sovereign expressed sympathy for the recent passing of Harriet Lynn. NEXT MEETING The next scheduled meeting is December 1, 2022.
