Commissioners present: Castagna, O’Neil, Peake, Sovereign Thomas

This meeting was held with a combination of in-person and teleconference attendance, pursuant
to the Ralph M. Brown Act, Calif. Government Code section 54953(e)(1)(C) and the Council's
resolution authorizing teleconference attendance at public meetings.
CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chair Thomas called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Evans and Wojtkowski were absent.
CONSENT ITEMS
On a motion by Commissioner Castagna, seconded by Commissioner O’Neil, and carried by the
following vote, the Museums and Cultural Arts Commission approved the minutes:

Action: Received and discussed
Library & Museums Director Edwards updated the Commission on recent activities.

3. Receive Museums and Cultural Arts Division Activity Report (Not a project under CEQA per
Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061)
Action: Received and discussed
Artifacts Specialist Leininger reviewed the monthly activity report.
There was no public comment on the matter.
PUBLIC APPEARANCE
4. Select Ad-Hoc Subcommittee for Collection Assessment for Preservation (Not a project under
CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061)
Action: Received and discussed
Library & Museums Director Edwards reviewed the Collection Assessment for Preservation
program and the request for an ad-hoc subcommittee. Sovereign and Castagna volunteered to
serve on the ad hoc subcommittee.
There was no public comment on the matter.
5. Presentation on NCIP Projects for FY 2022/2023 and Submittal Process for FY 2023/2024 (Not
a project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section
15061)
Action: Received and discussed
Edwards reviewed the 2022-23 NCIP projects and the submittal process for 2023-24. The
Commission discussed different projects including preserving the original Monterey Angels.
There was no public comment on the matter.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Peake attended the walking tour by Thomas and enjoyed the experience.
Thomas commented his hope that a portion of the Pacific Valley Bank adobe wall is made
viewable through a window rather than being completed covered.

The next meeting will take place on March 2, 2023.
ADJOURNMENT
Seeing no further business to come before the Museums and Cultural Arts Commission, Vice
Chair Thomas adjourned the meeting at 4:49 p.m.

COMMISSIONERS may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or
make a brief report on his or her activities. In addition, a Commissioner may provide a
referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to
the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any City matter, or direct staff to place a
