CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chair Crampton called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

5 Review and Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission Schedule for 2024 (Not a
project under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section
15061)
Action: Approved the Parks and Recreation Commission Schedule for 2024 (4-0-3).
Public Comments: None
On a motion by Commissioner McCarthy, seconded by Commissioner McEwen and carried by
the following vote, the Parks and Recreation Commission approved the Parks and Recreation
Commission Schedule for 2024
AYES: 4 COMMISSIONERS: Crampton, McCarthy, McEwen, Spangler
NOES: 0 COMMISSIONERS: None.
ABSENT: 3 COMMISSIONERS: Schmidt, Gibson, Ono
INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS
Recreation Manager Leon discussed several key topics including the upcoming Thanksgiving
Drive-Thru event, the hiring of full-time staff, recognition of Donna Gibson for her dedicated
service to Parks and Recreation, and a warm welcome back to Bill Rothschild at the Sports
Center.
Sports Center Manager Rothschild encouraged the Commission and the community to come by
and share their thoughts on the Sports Center, emphasizing the team's openness to exploring
ideas for the future.
Park Operations Manager Marcuzzo discussed the annual Christmas tree lighting happening on
December 1.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Commissioner Spangler shared her excitement to meet the new full-time staff and thanked the
whole Department for their efforts.
Commissioner McCarthy discussed his time on the Commission and wanted to say his farewell
to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Commissioner McEwen and Vice Chair Crampton reiterated their fellow Commissioners.

prepared. A member of the public or a Commissioner may request that an item
recommended for approval on consent be heard on the regular agenda for further
discussion.

PUBLIC COMMENTS allows you, the public, to speak for a maximum of three minutes
on any subject which is within the jurisdiction of the Monterey Parks and Recreation
Commission and which is not on the agenda. Any person or group desiring to bring an
item to the attention of the Commission may do so during Public Comments or by
addressing a letter of explanation to: Parks and Recreation Director, 546 Dutra Street,
Monterey CA 93940. The appropriate staff person will contact the sender concerning the
details.
PUBLIC APPEARANCE
PUBLIC APPEARANCE items are reports on action or informational issues that might
stimulate public discussion, but that do not require formal noticing as public hearings.
You are welcome to offer your comments after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair
may limit the time allocated to each speaker.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS supply the Commission with
written or oral information that they may wish to discuss or take action by placing the item
on a future agenda.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
COMMISSIONERS may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or
make a brief report on his or her activities. In addition, a Commissioner may provide a
referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to
the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any City matter, or direct staff to place a
request to agendize a matter of business on a future agenda. (G.C. 54954.2)
