Minutes 5.21.26 Page 3 of 6  MINUTES MONTEREY PARK TRAFFIC COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING May 21, 2026 The Traffic Commission of the City of Monterey Park held a Regular Meeting of the Commission in the Community Room located at 320 W Newmark Avenue, in the City of Monterey Park, on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Grajeda called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. 2. FLAG SALUTE: Commissioner Perez led the flag salute. 3. ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: Gabriel Grajeda, Paul Perez, & Donson Liu Commissioners Absent: Daisy Ma & Allan Shatkin 4. Telecommunications Announcement, if requested 5. Agenda Revisions and Additions – None 6. Public Communications – None 7. Page 4 of 6  Page 2 May 21, 2026 7.C Vision Zero Update  Completed a variety of community engagement pop-up events  Conducted three workshops with schools & had meetings with the school principals  Conducted school visits, attended drop-off and pick-up and observed with what we noticed for Kimley-Horn to put together a report and provide various recommendations  Implement and start to work on sidewalks and crosswalks in all schools and parks  Conducted a safety workshop at Langley center educating residents & the community  Project Timeline: • Completed community outreach pending for the final draft report of the Vision Zero Action plan • Start to develop some traffic calming guidelines in the city 8. CONSENT CALENDAR 8-A. Approval of Minutes Action Taken: Approved Minutes from the meeting of March 19, 2026 Motion: Moved by Commissioner Perez and seconded by Commissioner Liu, the motion carried by the following vote: Ayes: Commissioner Gabriel Grajeda, Paul Perez, & Donson Liu Noes: None Absent: Ma & Shatkin Abstain: None 9. Old Business - 9.A. Evaluation of the accident on Lincoln and Graves: Staff reviewed existing conditions along Lincoln Ave such as road width, allowed curb parking, striping, and street light spacing. It is recommended to take no action related to this request as the existing width of 30’ does not allow for any restriping and the distance between street lights is adequate. 10. New Business – 10.A. ADA blue curb ramp request review and process: Staff presented the process of reviewing blue curb requests starting with receiving the request, reviewing existing conditions, and providing a recommendation. 10.B. Request for the Installation of “Keep Clear” at Fernfield & Markland, review and process: Staff reviewed a request from a resident stating they are having difficulty entering the intersection of Potrero Grande Dr and E Markland Dr due to signal timing. Staff performed field visits and examined traffic conditions. Queue timing was found to be adequate, under 15 seconds, with a maximum time of 30 seconds (during peak hours). Staff recommends not installing any new pavement markings at this location. Page 5 of 6  Page 3 May 21, 2026 11. Commission Communications – Commissioner Perez would like to thank the Street Division for doing a great job at painting the median curb and adding the reflective markers to each end, at the entrance to Marketplace. Commissioner Liu commended staff for doing a great job installing the median at Garfield and Keller in front of Edison Trail Park. He also mentioned that he attended the Vision Zero workshop at Langley Center and residents were very engaged. Commissioner Grajeda attended the Public Works Open House and thanked Public Works staff for playing a part in making the event successful.
