Montpelier ADA Committee November 5, 2013 Attendance: Kim Brittenham, Tom McArdle, Thom Wood, Chris Lumbra, Marty Roberts, Jessie Baker, Arne McMullen. Introductions and Welcome Meeting called to order by Kim Brittenham, Chair. Update of Committee Involvement, Administrative, Facility and Program Priorities for 2013 To increase community involvement. There still seems to be more offices represented than community, in fact there’s been a loss of community members since Ann Wilson moved. There’s an ad to be placed to try to generate more involvement. There still needs to be more City Council involvement. Kim will try to plan the next City Council meeting on November 20. To bring the Assistant City Manager to meetings. Jessie has been attended. Montpelier Alive! participation and engagement. They have attended as special agenda items and will check in with VCIL for ADA compliance and facilitation. They are willing to partner on highlighting businesses who have made ADA adaptions. The ADA transition plan is a working document. Tom needs to find a new attorney to review it. Kim will call the New England ADA Center to get a recommendation for an attorney, Thom will also send a name to Tom of someone who has answered ADA questions previously. A solution for lack of wheel access with the Rec Department. There were some ideas discussed on how to get estimates. Capital needs assessment. The sidewalks are going to be assessed. The raw data has been attained, it just needs to be analyzed. 2014 Priorities Sidewalk snow maintenance – Franklin Shiner would like to do a walk about after a snow. Review employment practices – detailing requirements and allowances that might be necessary. City projects for committee review. Jessie suggested waiting until January to meet with the City Council with what was done in 2013 and the plans for 2014. Review and Approve Meeting Minutes from October 8, 2013 The meeting minutes are not posted to the website from July. Zach Blodgett is a DPW employee, not a sidewalk engineer. Set Next Meeting Date *Community member brought concern of potential risk of tasers on people with medical conditions to VCIL. I was asked to bring this to the Montpelier ADA Committee to discuss possible request for specific training on taser use with at risk populations for our officers carrying tasers. Here is a link to the Taser product warning that sites at risk individuals: http://www.taser.com/legal/Documents/Law-Enforcement-Warnings.pdf **Dan Pudvah emailed Committee Chair asking for next steps to take to apply for City CDBG money to cover portion (not named) of the $4,200 installation of power door opener. This is based on Dan’s understanding we are amending the CDBG loan fund to allow for small grants for access improvements for businesses and non profits.
