MSAC Advisory Board Meeting June 26, 2014 10:15am at MSAC Minutes Meeting was called to order at 10:20 by Chair, Tina Muncy Present: Tina Muncy, Janna Clar, Peter Harris, Fran Kruchenick, Liz Dodge, Jane Osgatharp, Janet Ressler and Sylvia Kingsbury Absent: Frank Woods and Sue Stukey Minutes of the previous meeting (May 28) were approved and accepted as amended. Old Business: 1. Sharing of member comments - Again problems with the pool at FIF – no instructor for Water Aerobics one day and water is cold due to pump malfunction. 2. Vintage Fashion Show and auction was a success – made $800 for MSAC. 3. Instructors' benefits: Instructors are now given one free class (regardless of cost) for each quarter in which they teach. Might they be offered a year's membership instead of free classes or a gift card each quarter? Janna will study this question from a financial impact basis. 4. Registering ONLINE on My Senior Center – system not working well enough yet, hopefully next quarter. Class fees are breaking even with instructors' salaries for all new classes. New Board Business: 1. Director's Updates a. Jackman estate – major endowment, MSAC one of four beneficiaries. Question of establishing a fund. b. Feast meals will be suspended last two weeks of July. Feast to Go no longer on Thur day, but will be available Tues. and Fri. for $9. Feast Together suggested donation for 60+ increased to $7. c. Noise problem has improved due to new partitions and kitchen staff training. d. With changes in staff there is approximately $3000. increase in personnel costs. 2. New Board member selection - Question of process for adding a 10th board member and whether it will be this or next year. A motion was made by Janet Ressler and seconded, to add the new member next year. Motion was carried. 3. Discussion of art to be hung at the Center - Question of who makes the judgment re- garding what is appropriate. Jane suggested forming a committee on art. Also making art visible from wheel chair and using art created by MSAC members. Janet agreed to participate 4. Committee reports and prices of trips not discussed at this time. A motion to adjourn was made by Liz Dodge and seconded. Meeting was adjourned at 11:57am. Jesse welcomed newly elected board members Liz Dodd, Susan Torchia and Whit Dall 2. Election of Officers: Chair - Tina Muncy was nominated and re-elected Secretary - Sue Stukey was nominated and re-elected and Vice Chair - Sylvia Kingsbury was nominated and elected. Tina assumed her position as newly re-elected Chair 3. New Business: a. An invitation was given to new members to serve on one of three committees: Finance, Fundraising or Program. Committees to meet alternate months with Board meetings. b. Members were told of the Jackman bequest and how this fund might best be managed. We will seek financial and legal counsel and report back. c. Feast update: MOUs have been approved by City Council. The city (community fund) has appropriated an additional $7000 for the Feast program to be paid to JBI to cover their budget shortfall in start up year due to number of meals served exceeding original projections. Congregate meals and take-out will be on Tuesday and Friday. No longer take-out on Thursday. Suggested donation is increased to $7. d. Next meeting dates: Meetings will be every other month, usually from 1:30 to 4:00pm Next meeting – Tuesday July 15, MSAC Resource room 9:30 to 12:30 to discuss budget. Tentative schedule for future meetings: Thursdays Sept. 11, Nov. 13, Jan. 8, March 12, and May 14. e. Possibilities for orientation of new board members was briefly discussed. 4.
