MSAC Advisory Council Meeting March 17, 2016 1:00 – 2:30PM MSAC Activity Room DRAFT MINUTES In attendance: Bob Barrett (Chairing for Whit Dall), Janna Clar, Liz Dodd, Ron Merkin, Susan Torchia, Jessica Sanderson 1) Call Meeting to Order Meeting called to order at 1:15 pm 2) Approve Agenda There were no changes or additions to the March 17, 2016 Agenda. Minutes from February 18, 2016 were approved. 3) Director Notes Janna Clar handed out comprehensive notes on MSAC Spring Registration and membership update, Van Pilot Project, the MSAC and Recreation Department Integration, Jackman Fund Update, MSAC Facility Updates, Spring Special Events and the City Council goal setting. (These notes were also emailed and made available to Council members at the MSAC office.) Eileen Jones was hired to be the Van Pilot Program Ride Planner, and the first day of service was April 12th. The targets for the program will be revisited during the trial. Policy goals for MSAC in the scheme of the larger City Goals were discussed, including: affordable fees for classes and membership, accreditation, growing the long term endowment Jackman Fund and continuing to improve and expand the programing. Janna was asked for her main concerns for the coming year and she cited the Recreation Department and MSAC merge. She will let the council members how they can be of assistance in this process. Concern over MSAC parking prompted suggestions like promoting carpooling, and providing free parking placards for members to use on Barre Street. One new handicapped parking space for members was made available from the tenant’s share. Janna spoke about ongoing talks with the City Council regarding Montpelier Senior Meals and the three way partnership between MSAC, Just Basics, Inc. and Good Taste Catering. Streamlining the relationship, by removing the JBI partner from the middle, has been discussed as one option, but any changes toward that would likely be planned for FY18, not FY17. There was a suggestion the MSAC Advisory Council create a new committee that focuses on the wellness of members by acknowledging life events, coordinating mediation for disputes and providing support to members who need it. 4) Advisory Council Recruitment Bill Doelger, Wendy Freundlich, John Hopkins, Paul Iron, Jessica Sanderson and Sue Stukey are candidates for the five open seats. Their bio information is in the April MSAC newsletter, and ballots are available through May in the MSAC newsletter and on-line. Voting ends June 1, 2016. 5) Strategic Planning for City Community Services Division Janna encourages all Advisory Council members to attend the meetings for the Rec and MSAC integration when possible. Janet Ressler will be the Advisory Council representative as often as possible, and Bob Barrett will participate, too. 6) Committee Reports FEAST Together. We are waiting to hear from the JBI Board if the Under 60 cost can be reduced from $9 to $7. The Board has kept the suggested donation amount for seniors at $7. The MSAC Senior Prom will be held at the Capitol Plaza May 28th, and the theme is a Garden Party. 7) Annual Meeting MSAC Annual Meeting date will be set in the coming month – for the end of June. Fran Krushenick will be stepping down as an Advisory Council member, at the end of her term, but will continue serving on MSAC committees. The Council is grateful for her valuable years of service and she will be recognized more fully at the Annual Meeting in June. Submitted April 24, 2016 Jessica Sanderson
