MSAC Advisory Council minutes of meeting May 19, 2016 DRAFT ONLY, NOT YET APPROVED Attending: Sue Stukey, Janet Ressler, Liz Dodd, Bill Doelger, Fran Krushenick Staff attending: Janna Clar, Dan Groberg Meeting was called to order by Sue at 1:20 (waiting for a quorum which never appeared). March minutes were approved at April meeting. April minutes were not available as Jessica is ill and hasn't been able to complete them. There were no additions to the agenda. Janna announced she would be presenting at a Gerontology Symposium the next day. Dan said MSAC has samples of new folding chairs and round tables, both of which have been requested by members. They are downstairs and Advisory Council members are encouraged to try them out to help determine if MSAC should purchase them. Some of the new Audio Visual equipment installation and floor sanding/refinishing will occur in early summer. Newly hired facilitators for the four-department merger between MSAC, Recreation, Parks, and Cemetery have been hired and have begun meetings. Janet and Bob will attend these meetings which will include at least two community outreach sessions between now and October. City Council has decided not to sell the Recreation building this year. MSAC annual meeting is scheduled for June 21. A final meeting of the standing Advisory Council will take place that day from 10:00-11:30. Member (FEAST) lunch at noon, and annual meeting from 12:45 – 2:15 will include soliciting input on integration as well as a review of activities of the last year. The newly elected Advisory Council will meet (hopefully to include out going folks as well) from 2:30 – 3:30. Emphasis will be on community services and planning. It was suggested that a white board be put out next to the menu board for folks to write in suggestions. Congregate meals will continue through the summer, as well as the youth meals organized by Just Basics, which were very successful last year. FEAST meals will likely pause about two weeks beginning September 12 while new partitions are installed (pending contractor renegotiation and City Council approval). Movement classes continue to be in great demand. There will be a new yoga class in Hubbard Park and Linda Hogan will offer a photography class this summer. There are approximately 30 class offerings for summer as different from the 50 offered in fall – spring. There will again be no subsidized swim program at First in Fitness this summer. Swimmers can make their own arrangements with First in Fitness. There has been feedback that Living Strong classes are too large and should be limited to 30 people. Staff met with instructors recently to discuss it. MSAC will try to add more LS classes and has a new instructor for summer. The upcoming Senior Prom sales are slow. It is scheduled over Memorial Day weekend which could be a reason for small ticket sales, especially the dinner. Dan needs volunteers for decorations and/or selling tickets at the door. Dinners do not seem to be worthwhile. Dinner tickets can be purchased on line. Open House is June 6, there will be class demos, which is the first day of registration. MSAC needs volunteers to help with registration that day. There are still challenges between MSAC staff and JBI board with how much to charge for congregate meals. Average donations have decreased since suggested donation and price for under 60s were increased by JBI board nearly two years ago. Perhaps this should be added to the list of questions/input for the Annual Meeting. Other suggestions/issues discussed include: (1) In MOU with GTC, increasing the rate charged to Good Taste Catering for office and storage space at MSAC (2) The hospitality committee was recommended to welcome new members and make them feel wanted and at home.
