October 17, 2016 MSAC Advisory Council Minutes were approved. Director's Notes Copies of these notes are available in the MSAC office upon request.  Because of requests from members, Janna will ask for city policy on holiday decorations at MSAC.  Advisory Council members present were asked to prioritize cost cutting strategies to FEAST Senior Meals plans, if necessary. Instead of lowering the food quality or eliminating the FEAST Together meal on Fridays, the members voiced their support of adequate fundraising to cover costs to keep the service as is.  Performance measures and standards have been added to MSAC staff, class instructors and a request to add performance measures for Fundraising was acknowledged by Janna and will be implemented.  All funds collected from future appeals will be designated to the city service they respond to, i.e.: MSAC to MSAC, Rec to Rec, unless there is a Capital Campaign for more than one service.  The Finance Committee recommends discontinuing lap swimming and pursue two water aerobics classes, in order to save approximately $10K, but after inquiry, First in Fitness cannot offer another water aerobics class at this time due to lack of instructors. Bob suggested we ask the participants if they have ideas to reduce the costs to MSAC. It was agreed that the connection between exercise and health benefits might fit in with UVM Health Network and CVMC subsidizing the program. Janna shared that Jessie Baker, Assistant City Manager, told city department heads that City employees are nervous about Bill Fraser’s uncertain status going forward, and that Monica Hutt, the current DAIL Commissioner, is a great advocate for Senior Centers and elders, and she may be replaced by new governor, Phil Scott. Present AC members voted not to have professional training or an Advisory Council meeting in December 2016. Meeting adjourned at 1:35 pm. Next meeting Monday, January 9, 12-1:30 pm, Montpelier City Hall, Memorial Room Respectfully submitted, Jessica Sanderson Scribe
