Montpelier Senior Activity Center 58 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT 05602 A Place for Healthy Aging and Lifelong Learning 802-223-2518 • msac@montpelier-vt.org • montpelier-vt.org/msac Advisory Council Meeting – DRAFT Minutes Monday, January 9, 2017 12 - 1:15 PM Montpelier City Hall Managers’ Conference Room Attending: Chair Bob Barrett, Director Janna Clar, Liz Dodd, Bill Doelger, Wendy Freundlich, John Hopkins, Ron Merkin, Janet Ressler, Jessica Sanderson, Susan Torchia November Minutes were not available and the members agreed to read and approve or edit all minutes by e-mail prior to the next meeting. Council Members were asked to vote on the dates and times of meetings:  Keep Monday and 12 – 1 PM Advisory Council Meeting times (one hour)  No Advisory Council meetings in July, August and December The role, benefit and recruiting of Advisory Council members was discussed. Benefits could include Professional Development and training, and Janna asked members to suggest trainings they would be interested to attend. Janna requested these actions:  Advisory Council members to recruit candidates for the upcoming elections in April through June.  A volunteer to collect 20 petition signatures from Worcester at the dump Saturday, January 14, but no one accepted the request. Director's Notes Copies of these notes are available in the MSAC office upon request.  Membership and class enrollment is at an all-time high, including from supporting towns.  Programming will explore how to make popular classes with full enrollment more accessible by increasing the number of classes, when possible.   Payment must be received on-line or in person for a member to be registered for a class. The MSAC office does not accept credit card payments over the phone. This gives members faster access on-line and is a disadvantage for walk-ins, who have transportation issues, but there is good notice of registration dates and at this time, it is the best service MSAC can provide to all its members.  Montpelier City Council approved MSAC/City taking on more management of FEAST Senior Meals from Just Basics, Inc. MSAC, JBI and GTC staff will be meeting to coordinate the transition of administration and will include an RFP for meal production in March and due in April, in time for City Council review and approval in June.  Janna met with the East Montpelier Select Board in December, who supported MSAC’s request on their ballot for Town Meeting Day, which she will attend to answer questions.
