Montpelier Senior Activity Center 58 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT 05602 A Place for Healthy Aging and Lifelong Learning 802-223-2518 • msac@montpelier-vt.org • montpelier-vt.org/msac Advisory Council Meeting Minutes Monday, January 22, 2018 12:00 – 2:30 PM MSAC Activity Room, Montpelier, Vermont Meeting convened at 12:11 PM Present at Roll Call: Chair Bob Barrett, Mary Carlson, Liz Dodd, Bill Doelger, Fran Krushenick, Ron Merkin, Late attending: Sue Stukey at 12:30 Director Janna Clar AC Members not present: Barbara Ladabouche, Janet Ressler, dianne richardson Guests: Wendy Hale, Eric Rajendra (presenting for the Strategic Plan at 12:30) A quorum was present (6+) Past Minutes  Corrected November 20, 2017 minutes were approved. Votes  Advisory Council Meeting time will be held bimonthly on Mondays from 12:30 – 3:00 PM (changed from 12:00 – 2:30 PM) effective immediately.  Eric Rajendra was voted onto the Advisory Council to complete Jessica Sanderson’s remaining term through July 2019 Announcements  MSAC hopes to host a documentary at the Green Mountain Film Festival on elders, Lives Well Lived, in March. Discussions:  Discussion of Eric Rajendra joining the Advisory Council. Favorable opinions that he brings much value to the council with some concern his expectations for the commitment from the Advisory Council members for the Strategic Plan cannot be met.  Safety concerns at MSAC about security in case of emergencies were discussed. MSAC has a daily plan which designates a person to be responsible for the safety of people in the building while open. Liz Dodd wants transparent reporting of any event where the police or fire department comes to MSAC and signage that prohibits weapons, emergency evacuation procedures, with follow-up and associated costs.  Develop a new member orientation protocol by the Membership Hospitality Committee which meets in February  Bill introduced the creation of a 501C3, “Friends of MSAC”.  Recruiting for the 4 coming vacancies on the council (Bob Barrett, Ron Merkin, Janet Ressler, Sue Stuckey) members are asked to recruit for these.  MSAC will support continuing discussions for Downsizing in the area.  Janna anticipates Justin Turcotte will be continuing his contract with an employee fulfilling the responsibilities of the MSAC FEAST Good Taste Catering contract when he goes on a year-long sabbatical.  Jo Ann Troiano of MHA replaced the vender for the snow removal with the City service and MSAC pays 40% of the condo association charge.  Bob and Janna are meeting with Tina Muncy and Nancy Schulz in February to discuss increasing MSAC trips.  Eric Rajendra began a presentation that recommends a protocol for the Strategic Plan which ran short of time and will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Actions  To confirm there will be a quorum in advance of the meetings, AC members are asked to contact to confirm/excuse their attendance. Liz Dodd for March/Bob Barrett for May.  Membership Hospitality Committee will create a letter/brochure for new member orientation  Bill Doelger will consult a lawyer to help draft language for a 501C3 non-profit for Friends of Montpelier Senior Activity Center.  Recruit Advisory Council candidates from membership and urge MSAC members to vote  Janna will request local demographic statistics from Ken Jones  Liz Dodd will draft a proposal for safety protocols at MSAC.  Reschedule Strategic Plan presentation.
