Parks Commission, 5/15/12 Commissioners: Kip Martell, Lyn Munno, Emily Boedecker, Cara Robechek Staff: Geoff Beyer March minutes approved. April minutes approved. Geoff gave an overview of summer plans. Two volunteer crews have been secured for the summer, with grants to fund material costs and labor, Crews will focus on the Peace Park, North Branch and Hubbard Park. VYCC crew will work for 4‐6 weeks to finish the National Life Trail. Signage at the tower. Commissioners agreed it is time to replace the temporary sign with a permanent sign. Lyn will check minutes for prior agreed upon next steps and language. Dept. of Public Works has requested Geoff work on contract tree planting to help with storm restoration. Funds would go to the parks dept. Tower landscaping. Good progress has been made already thanks to volunteers on Green‐Up Day, Vista and Green Mountain Club. Commissioners will visit the site independently to check on progress. Location for annual parks commission site visit was discussed and commissioners agreed to visit Gould Hill parking area and proposed vegetative management at North Branch Nature Park. Site visit is scheduled for June 4. Commissioners discussed next steps to move forward with the dog survey: Geoff has identified a volunteer to transfer the draft survey from Stephanie Lahar to Survey Monkey Emily volunteered to work on design for public distribution Lynn will reach out to Bridge, City Clerk and library to check on costs and distribution options. Geoff will build a box for surveys to be dropped off at the park Kip will investigate having the survey available at Onion River Sports A potential issue was raised concerning the AmeriCorps position and reporting to VHCB. Geoff and Lyn will arrange a meeting with VHCB to ensure parks is meeting requirements. Other business: National Life community garden plots will be available this year. Request has been passed on to Geoff to add sand to the sandbox area at the College. Montpelier elementary school has asked for assistance with materials to create a nature scape playground. Geoff has committed to providing materials and schedule. Adjourned at 9:10pm
