Montpelier Parks Commission Tuesday October 17, 2017, Police Station Conference Room Dan Dickerson, Bill Johnson, Carolyn Grodinsky, Sarah Swenson Alec Ellsworth, Geoff Beyer No members of the public attended Meeting Minutes 7:05: Dan moved the Agenda as written, Bill seconded Budget Task Force Update (Dan and Bill): ● Need to replace truck earlier than 2020. Parks can get a used truck for $10,000 from our budget assuming we can also get another $10,000 from the Tree Management budget. ● Parks working to pull out items in its budget that are used for the tree management (eg the truck purchase request used by both groups) ● Discussed Capital Improvement Plan budget that’s being considered Multi Use Trails Task Force Update (Dan): ● Alec suggest they want corridors and linking trails ● Dovetail trails with the Parks Greenprint ● Should bring groups together with our Greenprint planning Greenprint Committee Update (Carolyn/Geoff): ● Joann Garten compiling maps with all trails. Group will meet once this is completed ● Parks sent trails to Conservation Committee to complete the Official Map for the Montpelier Master Plan update Future Visioning and Planning: ● Commission asked Geoff to ask Rebecca (Americorps person for Parks) to seek grant money for visioning work ● Ask the Planning Department (Mike Miller) to help with planning and visioning work and attend a Parks meeting Updates ● Update on status of Community Services Department and work out of new Americorps position. FY 19 budget planning may result in increased consolidation of the different entities’ budgets. Caretaker Updates: ● Reviewed Parks Incidents report ● Need bigger signs and need to increase outreach (eg handing out dog postcards) ● Alec to talk to Dan Gruber about music for next summer for 2018 regarding fundraiser ● Next year, possibly scale back scope of Howlfest ● Music events - June, July, Aug, Sept (July is biggest fest with camping). Music should be kid friendly to complement family camping Dan moved to go into Executive Session, Bill seconded Carolyn moved to go out Executive Session, Bill seconded Bill motioned to begin process of purchasing land near the soccer field, using Park Impact Fee Fund, Dan seconded. Motion Passed Carolyn moved to adjourn meeting, Bill seconded Note regarding comments from the public: Please reserve comments on specific agenda topics to the end of the agenda item
