MONTPELIER RECREATION DEPARTMENT’S ADVISORY BOARD MEETING July 9, 2014 Attending Board Members: Aubrey Boyles, Andrea Talentino, Karlynn Koeneman Absent Board Members: Buzz Surwillo, Ena Backus, Tom Golonka (City Council), Susan Aldrich (School Board) and Beth Maguire (Student Rep.) Attending Rec. Department: Arne McMullen, Director, Jenny Bartlett, Program Director and Penny Dowen, Administrative Assistant, Called to order 5:40 Public Presentation – There was not a public presentation this month. Minutes from June 2014 were not approved. FINANCIAL: Arne went over the financial reports with the Board. The Revenues are over by $56,000 and our budget will be under spent due to cost on many budget lines were lower than anticipated. Motion to approve by Andrea and 2nd by Karlynn. OLD BUSINESS: Pool House Lights – The outdoor lights by the pool have been fixed for Moon Light Swim. Mountaineers Estimated Costs: Arne handed out a packet of information showing costs incurred during the summer when the Mountaineers are using the Recreation field. It was suggested that when the season is over that the Recreation Department approach the Mountaineer’s Board about contributing towards the incurred costs and moving forward for next year. It was also suggested that we invite the Mountaineer Board to the Recreation Department’s October Board meeting. NEW BUSINESS: Black River Design/OPTIONS: John Hemmelgarn of BRD gave an overview of 4 possible options for our ADA entrance to the Recreation Center. The 4 options ranged from $40,000 for a side ramp to $220,000 for an elevator. These are still rough estimates. ADA Path to Pavilion – Arne handed out a sketch with a possible ADA path to the pavilion. Arne will get a proposal for the Board to look at. Lights at Dog River – Two light bulbs on a couple of lights at Dog River are going to be replaced and the bank of lights in right field is going to be redirected. PROGRAM DIRECTOR REPORT: Jenny went over the programs for which most of them are filling up. US Sports was cancelled due to low enrollment. She will begin looking for another program to take their place next summer. July 25th is our 1st Star Light Dance at the Pavilion. We will be co-hosting an Ice Skating Party and Bon Fire with the Civic Center on August 22nd. A new dance instructor has been hired for the fall classes. The Fall Brochure will be out mid-August. Motion was made by Karlynn to adjourn the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and Aubrey 2nd. THE NEXT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, September 10th, 2014 @ 5:15 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO AUGUST MEETING
