Montpelier Recreation Department’s Advisory Board Meeting April 22, 2015 Attending Board Members: Karlynn Koenemann, James Surwilo, Andrea Talentino Absent Board Members: Aubrey Boyles, Ena Backus, Tom Golonka (City Council), Sue Aldrich (School Board) Attending Recreation Department Staff: Arne McMullen, Director Called to order: 6:33 pm Public Presentations: none Minutes from March 9, 2015: Karlynn motioned to approve the minutes, Andrea 2nd. Financial Statements: Board had no questions on the Financial Statements. Old Business: Grand Progress: Buzz: Grant well on the way. Have some fill in information to complete. Arne and I have met and talked about the areas we needed to finish on the grant. Other Grant Possibilities: Working with Kevin from the Development Department on the Block Grant. Fundraising/Donations Discussion: The plan is to reaching out for funding possibilities. Looking for possible donors for big companies that may want to help. Checking to see what the rules could be for Municipal Organizations to ask for Donations. New Business: Rec. Board Approved the Capital Needs Assessment Fee Proposal for $5,300.00. Andrea motion, Karlynn 2nd. Hiring Process: Interviews scheduled for April 28 & 29 for 5:15 and 6:15 each night. Senior Center, Rec. Staff, Rec. Board Member taking part in interviews. Updated questions for interviews. Advertising for Vacant Board Member – will be underway this next month. Garbage/Recycling Laws: By 20/20 organic waste cannot be put in landfills. Recycle bins will need to be next to all garbage cans by July 1. Poster on bins to help identify bins. Directors Report: Spring preparation is well under way. Working on outdoor facilities for winter damage, preparing for spring sports fields set up, and getting seasonal maintenance staff on board for season. Baseball signups are higher then last year. Spring programs are going very well. Other Business: Chocolate Egg Hunt went very well. Around 800 people attended the event. Still working on the baseball field renovation plan. Working with the city to get some field levels to put our plan together for a proposal. Seasonal staff interviews completed.
