Montpelier Recreation Department Advisory Board Meeting Minutes January 9, 2017 Attendees: James “Buz” Surwilo, Karlynn Koenemann Absent Board Members: Attending Recreational Department Staff: Arne McMullen, Eric White Attending From Community: Call to order 5:38 p.m. I. Public Presentations a. None II. Approval of November 2016 minutes. a. No Quorum. III. Financial Statements a. Reviewed with Board. i. Overview of current budget at half year mark. ii. Budget running close to last year. iii. Avoid running our soccer camp the same week as Capital Soccer. IV. Old Business a. Pool Facility i. Sun Shade Ideas ii. Solid vs Mesh iii. $2500 - $10,000 options. iv. Is it possible to hook anything to building for sun shade? b. Skating Update i. Background checks for ice monitors. ii. Ice staff hired through Rec. Dept. but will be reimbursed. V. New Business a. Pool Fee/Revenue Changes i. Adjusting pool fees and possible staffing adjustments to keep the pool open up to two weeks longer in the season providing staff is available. . b. NNERPC – Northern New England Recreation and Parks Conference i. Conference on Recreation Eric and I will be attending. ii. Has a lot of training sessions for Recreation Professionals. c. Energy Committee – Montpelier  i. Volunteer committee going through city buildings to see what the priority and needs of the city facilities are. VI. Directors Report a. Meetings focused with the community services department developing strategies for working more closely together.. VII. Program Coordinator/Pool Director’s Report a. Program updates. i. Lifeguards – letters are out to see who is going to return. ii. Programs are going strong. iii. Ski program is going smoothly. iv. Youth Basketball – going really well with other towns. VIII. Other Business a. Valentine Dance Tickets limited to 550. Dance 6:30 – 8:30 pm Feb. 13. b. Bowling limited to 48 on Feb. 18 from 12-1:30 pm. c. City Budget Meetings coming up. d. Next Meeting Feb. 6th at 5:30 p.m. IX. Adjournment 6:50 pm
