Tree Board Meeting - Minutes
Memorial Room, City Hall
In attendance: Carole Naquin, Wendy Blakeman, Sarah Hoffmeier, Geoff Beyer, and Craig Royce
The February minutes were approved.
The volunteer hours chart was passed around. Geoff said he would need to check his calendar to fill in his share and
Carole had trouble adding lines to the google docs to add in more of her hours. Wendy will add hers.
Geoff updated the board on his new intern Tom and on the budget status, which is still pending until the vote.
Wendy and Carole updated the board on the Farmer’s Market. It went well and 10 new volunteers signed up to help
with future opportunities.
Flyers (made by John Snell) were distributed amongst the group to be put up in the coming weeks. Sarah offered to call
the World and Seven Days to see about getting the pruning workshops on their calendars as well.
Spring planting was discussed. Craig offered to get in touch with Gardener’s Supply to see about their stock and if he
could get us any deals on trees. Wendy would see about using the credit from the Mazer grant to purchase two trees to
plant during Arbor/Green-up Days. It was decided that 6 trees could be planted during those two days, May 4-5 in the
following locations: In front of – china star, splash, bagitos, #6 on East State Street (the last tree), TD Bank (across from
the UU Church, and one near the State House (Craig is organizing a Earth Day (April 22) table on the State lawn and it
would make for an easy way to recruit help).
A few species were discussed including pear, ginko, little leaf linden, hophornbeam, and northern red oak. It was asked
that the group look into prices and sources for the next meeting, using 3”-4” caliber preferably.
Geoff also had the Hubbard Park landscape plan showing a possible design for edibles around the tower.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 5th at 5:15pm in the Memorial Room of City Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Sarah Hoffmeier
