John
Snell
opened
the
meeting
by
thanking
the
watering
teams
for
the
fabulous
work
they’ve
done
this
summer.
He
noted
the
downtown
trees,
for
the
most
part,
look
better
than
they
have
in
a
long
time.
He
also
thanked
Bob
Troester
and
John
Akielaszek
for
their
continued
volunteer
efforts
at
several
workdays
this
summer.
The
minutes
of
the
August
meeting
were
reviewed
and
approved.
John
Snell
reported
a
workday
at
the
nursery
was
successful.
Most
of
the
trees
were
weeded,
mulched
and
guards
installed.
Geoff’s
crews
mowed.
Geoff
said
he
crews
can
till
up
several
rows
for
fall
and
spring
planting.
The
workday
originally
scheduled
for
September
14th
was
rescheduled
to
September
11.
Work
will
be
done
installing
fencing
and
mulch
on
the
trees
planted
at
Union
School
last
spring.
John
Snell
suggested
we
pursue
the
“Ginkgo
tree
leaf
drop”
as
a
fundraiser
and
focal
point
for
planting
trees
on
Barre
Street.
The
idea,
originally
put
forth
by
Carole,
is
to
hold
a
50/50
raffle
to
predict
the
day
the
big
Ginkgo
on
Barre
Street
drops
its
leaves.
Carole
or
John
will
get
the
article
about
the
tree
from
the
office
of
Fothergill
et
al.
Carole
will
work
up
some
graphics.
We
will
sell
tickets
at
Farmers
Market.
Details
to
still
work
out:
how
to
track
tickets
and
money.
John
Russell
stopped
into
the
meeting
to
say
the
large
(and
declining)
Sugar
Maple
tree
at
Bethany
Church
is
going
to
be
removed,
along
with
the
Apple
and
one
of
the
two
Honey
Locusts.
They
will
re-‐plant
with
a
large
tree,
probably
a
Red
Oak.
Geoff
said
the
MHS
volunteers
will
help
with
tree
planting
on
Thursday,
Sept
20th,
9
-‐
9:30
until
noon.
Carole
and
John
Snell
will
lead
planting
teams.
Details
to
be
worked
out
and
coordinated
by
Geoff.
John
Snell
will
walk
Barre
Street
and
make
notes
and
photos
of
potential
planting
sites.
Some
planting
will
be
done
this
fall
(Sept
20th
and
other)
Kevin
Casey
(Community
Development
Specialist)
asked
to
be
kept
informed
about
plans
for
planting
on
Barre
St.
Meeting
adjourned
at
6:30.
