The Joint City Council / Planning Commission Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m. REGULAR MEETING Mayor Tate called the regular City Council meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. 7:00 P.M. SILENT INVOCATION PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE CITY COUNCIL REPORTS Mayor Tate announced that April 13th was the first meeting of the Silicon Valley Clean Energy Authority. This is a joint powers authority that was recently formed by 11 Santa Clara County cities. It does not include Palo Alto or Santa Clara who have their own energy supply or San Jose who is also independent. It was a very productive meeting, we adopted a budget and created a calendar. In April of 2017 we will launch the capability of buying good clean energy form an alternative source. He spoke regarding the potential of putting a measure on the November ballot for a half cent sales tax for 30 years to fund transportation projects. Over that period of time,we would collect about 6.3 billion dollars across the county of Santa Clara. $1.5 billon would go to the completion of BART. The rest would go to cities throughout the county for various purposes. The money that would come to the City of Morgan Hill would be used to extend Hale Avenue to connect to Dewitt. That is a very important project to us. We would also get to improve and maintain our streets. The other thing we want to figure out is how we would benefit from the enhancement to CalTrain; they want to put more cars on each train but that doesn't help Morgan Hill. We will have more meetings to figure out how Morgan Hill can benefit. City of Morgan Hill Page 2 Printed on 5/24/2016 City Council Meeting Minutes April 27, 2016 CITY MANAGER'S REPORT City Manager Rymer recognized and thanked all of our teammates in honor of Administrative Professionals Day. He announced the City lowered the flags in honor of former Mayor Dennis Kennedy and encouraged local businesses and organizations to also follow suit. He shared a fun fact about the solar installation at the Centennial Recreation Center: it has produced over 2 million kilowatts of energy. To put that in perspective, the amount of CO2 that has been avoided because of that is equal to 4.3 million miles driven by a vehicle, or it would take over 53,000 mature trees to remove that amount of CO2 from the atmosphere.
