Meeting Minutes for May 11, 2022

Meeting called to order by at 5:32 P.M. Meeting took place at the Historic Depot, Hazel Ruby McQuain Park.
Minutes:
The April 2022 minutes were reviewed.
Motion to approve minutes – Commissioner Nikki Bowman Mills

Motion passed 3-0 4 abstained
Public Comment:
None
New Business:
The Commissioners discussed and reviewed the roles and responsibilities of the Commission and ad-hoc
committees. A committee will be assembled for a specific project, the committee will make recommendations to
the Arts Commission and the Commission will then review the procedures used for the decision and decide
whether to make a recommendation to the City for action on the project. The discussion included the Public Art/
Mural Committee and its work.
The Commission and discussed the HRMP rental fees and decided to review the actual costs of running the park and
possible re-evaluation of fee structure toward the end of the summer or early fall in particular regarding non-profit
entities. Revenues generated in the park must be used for the park.
Mark McCoy suggested the Commission look at what other cities are doing in their parks and, in the fall, reflect and
brainstorm on what activities might work for the next summer season in the park.
Vincent announced that Randall Reid Smith will be in town on August 4th and Vincent will be hosting him to review
what has been happening in arts and culture in Morgantown.
Director’s Report: Vincent E. Kitch
Director Kitch provided an overview of events and activities of the Arts & Cultural Development Department.
MHM – Vincent said he hope to hire a manager for the museum in the late summer of early fall.
Met – The Met carpeting has been installed.
HRMP – Full production mode getting ready for concerts. First event Saturday, May 28 – Morgantown
Music Festival. Mon Health had an event at the park this past Saturday with Mon’s Got Talent for about
100 people.
DACD was notified they received another $10,000 grant for the summer concerts from the Met. Mark
Downs and Vincent discussed a pilot program in August for selling beer in the park during certain
events.
The next meeting will take place on June 8, 2022, Historic Depot – Hazel Ruby McQuain Park.
