Director’s Report: Vincent E. Kitch
Director Kitch provided an overview of events and activities of the Arts & Cultural Development
Department.
MHM – We have secured approval to continue to have a FT AmeriCorps position for the 2022-2023
fiscal year from Preservation Alliance of West Virginia. Lee Maddox has agreed to stay on in that role.
Vincent has reached out to HR to post the Museum Manager position.
Met – The new digital poster case is up and running. We have bids out for the replacement of the HVAC
System estimated to be around $400,000. We received notice of a $75,000 grant from the WV
Commission on the Arts to help with this project. Met will be dark until September when they have Neil
McCoy on 9/2 from Drusky Entertainment. That is also the same night as the final concert here at the
Amphitheater.
HRMP – The Ruby Summer concert series is going strong. Averaging 1500 people or more per week.
Last week we had rain and limited the crowd to 500. There are 4 more concerts Sanctus Real, Sister
Hazel, Bela Fleck, and Del Castillo. We also received a grant from WV Commission on the Arts of
$20,000 for this summer.
Other – The Westover Bridge Pier Mural was completed on schedule and the response has been great.
City is working with local event promoter Jamie Summerlin to develop a High Street Fest scheduled for
September 24 from noon-6.
Lisa Giuliani has been appointed to the commission and will attend our next meeting.
