FIRE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION December 3, 2019 10:00 am Cite Hall Council Chambers PRESENT: President Shane Mardis, Commissioner Noel Hoffman, Commissioner Michael Jacks (via telephone), Chief Mark Caravasos, City Clerk Christine Wade, Deputy Clerk Heather Carl, Capt. Eugene Deem, Capt. David Dzurnak, Captain Ken Tennant, Lt. John Lemley, Lt. Keith Summers, Lt. Jayson Nicewarner, and Firefighters Derek Porter, Tim Trentini, Tad Dalton, Andy Dotson, Klint Connery, Andrew Waxman, Bryan Davis, Aaron Giles, Nicholas Wright, and Aaron Brandstetter. Time: 10:00 a.m. President Mardis called the meeting to order. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion by Hoffman, second by Jacks, to approve the minutes from September 6, 2019, as printed. New Business: A. Establish date for Captain test. After discussion, motion by Hoffman, second by Jacks, to set the date for the Captain test as Monday, January 20, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. with location to be decided. Miscellaneous Items: A. Content of written test and study materials for Captain's test. Discussion regarding the current list of Fire Captain test books for study and the possibility of utilizing updated editions of the books. After discussion, the current study books will remain the same to prevent any delay in testing. Commissioner Mardis asked for feedback from the Firemen in attendance if there were any changes they would like to see on future tests. Firefighter First Class Thadius Dalton commented that he would like to see personnel rules and regulation questions added to the test. B. Set date for Lieutenant test if applicable. Motion by Hoffman, second by Jacks to set the Lieutenant test if needed as Monday, February 17, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. with location to be decided. C. Set date for Entry-level Firefighter interviews. After discussion, the dates for Entry-level firefighter interviews will be Tuesday, December 10, 2019, and Wednesday, December 11, 2019, both from 8:00 a.m. until noon with location to be decided. D. Increase air mileage for hiring. After discussion, President Mardis will reach out to the Morgantown Police Commission to discuss.
