Actions Morgantown Municipal Green Team July 11, 2017 Attending: Joey James, Jim Kotcon, Jing Zhang, Pam Cubberly, Jenny Selin, Joe Kanosky, Alex Davis, Janis Gunel, Daniel Pan, Ella Belling, Don Spencer, Chris Haddox, Dr. Gopala, Mark Brazaitis, Barry Wendell, Sandra Fallon, and Logan Thorne. LED Street Light Study  Former team member and chair Chris Haddox will continue to support City/WVU Intern Abby Cayton who is doing a feasibility study of LED street lights across the city and is making good progress.  Joe Kanosky is staying in touch with both Chris and Abby as the official team “mentor” to the project and will keep the team in touch on progress.  Ella Belling will forward to Chris Haddox the proposal for solar lighting of the rail trail.  Joey James will also send info on solar lighting of the rail trail to Chris Haddox and ask him to (1) pass this info on to Abby Cayton, as well as info on “appropriate” lighting standards, and (2) ask Abby to give a brief status report at the August 7 Green Team meeting. Presentation of IAC report to City Manager and Council  Alex Davis will present the IAC report at the August COW (August 29) meeting.  Joey James will follow up Alex’s presentation with a request for the City Manager to direct City Engineering staff to prioritize implementation of the energy efficiency recommendations, focusing on “low-hanging fruit” to reap immediate benefits. Joey will be sure to send the report to Paul and Damien ahead of of the COW meeting and presentation.  All members interested will get involved in supporting City implementation of IAC report in coming year.   Daniel Pan is working on a few glitches in the team’s fillable Citizen Feedback and Member Recruitment PDF before we can approach Krista Baker about adding a link to the team’s webpage on the City website.  Jing Zhang will continue the team’s long-range planning process this year by meeting with key City Staff and Council members on their and GT project priorities for the next year or two to see where these overlap and to get their input. Jing will also invite and possibly schedule at least one annual presentation/discussion with each key staff or council member in the coming 12 months. County REAP Grant with Benefits for City  Joey James reported that a REAP grant was submitted in collaboration with the County to collect survey data on recycling. As he worked on the grant, which will also study the City’s single-stream recycling system since 2013, Joey will serve as a continuing Green Team contact with this project on any ways the grant may also benefit City recycling efforts. Recycling/Trash Hauler Bid Choice  Joey James will collect all feedback from team members on the three bids/proposals submitted to the city and summarize and submit that feedback as soon as possible, as the City was to discuss the proposals officially the next day.  Pam Cubberly offered to coordinate with the City and newly contracted recycling/trash hauler on regular monitoring of recycling data and accuracy of public information on recycling in coming year so we are all on the same page. She will continue to work with City Communications Director Krista Baker to assure accurate information is received by residents. Team members will continue to send tasks to Pam that she can complete remotely. A. Meeting Adjournment / Date for August Meeting The team agreed to set the August monthly meeting on Monday, August 7, at the Morgantown Public Library. The meeting adjourned at 7:00pm.
