Health and Wellness Commission meeting Aug 11, 2022 Attendees: - Susan, Jennie, Kim, Ixya, Alexandria, Call to order at: - 7:09 PM Approved Minutes: - Ixya Moved to approve July 14, 2022 Kim seconded Report on city council discussion: - The Sharps containers are out to the public Committee Member reports on current events: - Big Daddy guns- More hostility in the community with using children as a ploy - Solutions? Background check the safety and what can we do to make sure that they are better, Can we - They have to have suicide prevention flyers in their shop - Unhoused and using folks- staff do not feel safe closing the library alone - Section of Downtown - Caregivers for older folks - There is a lack of caregivers for older folks and even children in the state - Proclamation: Nov. 5 is caregivers' day - In DC 1% of the payroll of every business is for caregiver relief fund and can use for health - Period Products for students - Period Party - Check if we are allowed to sponsor these events Follow-up items: - Survey - Students analyzing data - Policy from the state legislature - Abortion bans in West Virginia - Mental Health - Flyers for the 988 number - Buzz fest August 27th at the art party and the art bar at 123 pleasant st - Food insecurity - - Physical Activity - No BOPARC meeting this month - Substance Abuse - We have - Grants  - No updates To Do: - Jennie is going to take lead on a proclamation and look at getting us a booth for the art walk - Sign up for Arts Walk - Most of the group can be there that day - Ixya will make sure the commission can get money for - We will draft a letter for Big Daddy Guns - 988 Flyers design - Ixya will bring a tent, chairs, and resources, Find resources for houselessness, mental health, - Take the lead to ask the city if they can print out the flyers -
