Morgantown Historic Landmarks Commission January 18, 2017 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm at the Morgantown Public Safety Building. Attending: Jeanne Grimm, Bill Kawecki and Kathy Hanko. Absent: Rodney Pyles and Shannon Tinnell No minutes from the last meeting were available. NEW BUSINESS: Election of officers. Jeanne Grimm moved to elect Shannon Tinnell president and Kathy Hanko secretary. It was approved by acclamation. Plans were shared for the Fifth Morgantown Area History Roundtable to be held March 15, 2017. Nominations for the PAWV Endangered Property list were discussed. No properties that we are aware of would be eligible. Jeanne shared information regarding a class at OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) that she may be teaching in the spring session with Jenny Boulware and students from WVU. It will be the presentation given at the WV Preservation Alliance Conference. She also mentioned presentations by Ms Boulware and WVU students given to local groups (Morgantown North Rotary Club and Morgantown Realtors Association) regarding the Suncrest Survey. The MHLC is submitting a letter requesting funding from the City budget. Items to be included are monies for History Day at the Legislature and travel expenses for the State Preservation Alliance Conference, which qualify as training that the Commission members are required to have. Money for grant matching and communications including flyers and an exhibit board will also be included. The letter is due by the end of January. Thursday Jan 26th there is a presentation on Revitalizing WV’s Downtowns in Fairmont. Bill, Jeanne and Kathy plan to attend. This year’s History Day at the Legislature is March 9th in Charleston. There was no new information on the remaining items on the agenda. Meeting was adjourned at 7:38 pm. Kathy Hanko, Secretary  Fifth Morgantown Area History Roundtable The Morgantown Historic Landmarks Commission (MHLC) is holding its Fifth Morgantown Area History Roundtable from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on March 15, 2017, at the Aull Center for Local History & Genealogical Research, 351 Spruce Street, Morgantown. Many individuals and representatives of organizations interested in history attended our previous Roundtables. Attendees exchanged information and gave or listened to presentations that focused on current and future history projects in the Morgantown area. For the Fifth Roundtable, the MHLC has invited Jennifer Brennan, Structural Historian and CLG Coordinator, West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Charleston, WV. Her presentation will focus on “Tax Credits and Development Grants.” The evening will have a refreshment time for informal sharing and collaborating. We would like to invite you to bring materials, photos or media to illustrate your history projects.
