Historic Landmarks Commission

MORGANTOWN HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION October 16, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm in the Public Safety building by Jeanne Grimm. Those present were Bill Kawecki, Jeanne Grimm, Jessica Eichlin, The minutes of the September meeting were approved. NEW BUSINESS: Marilla Survey: The survey will be considered next year Downtown Historic Plaques: There was discussion regarding finding historic glimpses to be put on plaques in the downtown area. There are 12 or so possibilities identified, 8 probable. OLD BUSINESS: Collaboration with Monongalia Historical Society: Jeanne will attend a future Monongalia County Historical Society meeting with Paula McClain, president of the Monongalia Co Landmark Commission to discuss possible collaboration. MHLC brochures are in progress. Site maps and layout are being created by the Morgantown City Planner. The work on the Hazel Ruby McQuain Park and the Walnut St landing are on schedule. The Facebook page is being maintained by Jessica Eichlin. Emma McGruder, a journalism student interviewed Shannon Tinnell about the Morgantown Landmarks Commission for a class project. The historic plaques for Oak Grove Cemetery are pending at the State Archives and History Commission. Multisite Designation Stone Walls Grant: Jeanne has talked with Mike Giolis regarding a multisite designation for stone walls. It should cost approximately $18,000. The City will need to fund 30%, $5,400 with @ $3000 of that amount covered by WVU students’ participation. Indian Park, Kathy is checking the progress of this project.
