MORGANTOWN HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION
March 16, 2022 MHLC Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm using Zoom by Shannon
Tinnell.
Those participating were Shannon Tinnell, Mike Jones, and Jessica
Eichlin.
February minutes approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
-Adelheid Schaupp submitted rough drafts of the text for the potential
Greenmont markers. Next step is to approach the city regarding
funding. Shannon will reach out to Adelheid.
-The 50th Anniversary PRT and History Roundtable is postponed until
2023. WVU will be holding events as well: public history student
projects, engineering restored a prototype car, WVRHC archives, Watts
Museum, etc. Mike briefly discussed the interesting legal history of the
PRT. The PRT is now eligible for inclusion on the National Register of
Historic Places, and should be surveyed soon.
-The Multisite Designation Stone Walls survey has been approved by
the WV State Historic Preservation Office. The invoice has been sent to
the city. Shannon has reached out to Dr. Jennifer Thornton (WVU
Public History) and Mike Gioulis for student hours. Final report will be
sent to SHPO soon.
NEW BUSINESS:
-Welcome to new MHLC member, Mike Jones!
-Agendas and minutes were sent to the city by Bill Kawecki. Going
forward, Jessica will take notes and send the minutes.
-The committee received a response regarding the Harmony Grove
interchange. It was vague, and we are not sure of next steps. Primarily
concerned about access to property.
Adjourn: 7:31 pm
