HOUSING COMMISSION MINUTES
JULY 27, 2016
Present: Jim Craig, Ruth Donaldson, Rachel Fetty, Bill Kawecki, Lisa Darden, Carrie Ken
Tennant, Arthur Trusler, John Whitmore,
1. Call to Order: 8:30
2. Trista Wright was not present-no Fair Housing report.
3. Rotating monthly stakeholder information: Clarification was given regarding intent of this
agenda item to inform Commission members of the interests of various stakeholders in the
Morgantown Community. No report was given today. Tentative scheduling: Carrie Showalter,
August, Lisa Darden in September.
4. Rachel Fetty-Report regarding small group progress on planned housing fair and employer
advisement regarding housing issues. Due to summer scheduling issues, planning will
recommence in August after school begins throughout the county.
5. Lisa Darden gave a brief report on housing development presently in process of seeking
approval. Planned community primarily for seniors with “scholar houses” placed intermittently for
single parent families. From her observation, scholar houses have been extremely successful in
assisting students in challenging circumstances be more successful and graduate. More details
will be given at the September meeting.
6. Captain Tennant and Jim Craig raised ongoing issues related to intersection on Beverly and
safety issues related to turning radius for firetrucks, visibility for drivers, flooding of private property
due to water diversion problems etc. The Commission was advised that these matters are
presently being addressed on a number of fronts, however, it was recommended by Commission
members that immediate measures be taken to address any immediate safety concerns prior to
the return of the students.
7. WVU move in is the 13th.
8. Captain Tennant gave a fire report regarding the 4th of July fireworks and possible changes
related to the changes in legislation regarding the sale of fireworks. Zoning restrictions may be
sought to address tent sales.
9. The Commission was notified that Habitat for Humanity has openings for families for a three
bedroom and single bedroom housing unit currently in the works.
6. The next meeting is scheduled for August 24th, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. in the Public Safety Building
300 Spruce St. Morgantown, WV.
