HRC Meeting June 16, 2022
Called to Order 6:31p.m.

Approved minute meetings for April and May (passed unanimously)
MEI – Members discussed issues raised with regard to drafting the MEI for the City. Among the
issues that were discussed: providing proper documentation for various initiatives in the MEI.
Communications/Commissioner Updates:
● Rep. Hairston has discussed the scheduled for mandatory state human rights commission
● Commissioner Orr and Brown were reappointed to another two year term
● Commissioner Orr will be meeting with folks from the WV Coalition of Homelessness
● Commissioner Trejo is working with people in the Minority Council to build connections.
Also discussed meeting with community representatives to develop infomercials on various
issues that affect the Latino community. Commissioner Trejo also discussed ways to create
more interest within the Minority Council
Progress Reports:
● Indigenous People’s Working Group Update. Agreed to look at cities across the country that
have successful Indigenous People’s declarations.
● Commissioner Brown noted that the next meeting for the Indigenous People’s Working
Group Monday June 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
● Commissioner Orr wants to suggest an orientation after the next HRC meeting. Also moved
to have the meeting moved to the 28th. Commissioner Brown seconded. Motion was passed
unanimously.
Announcements:
Next MEI working meeting tentatively scheduled for July 13th at 6:30 p.m.
Next Indigenous People’s Working Group meeting June 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
Next Commission meeting July 28th at 6:30 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
