Approved 02.15.2018 MORGANTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Minutes of the Regular Meeting January 18, 2018 Present: Absent: Also Present: Others Present: Sue Carpenter Sarah Palfrey Linda Durfee Kelly Funkhouser Elizabeth McConnell Janet Paine Penny Pugh Call to order The Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Morgantown Public Library convened at the Morgantown Public Library, on January 18, 2018. The meeting convened at 9:06am, Penny Pugh, President presiding, Kelly Funkhouser, secretary. Approval of the Minutes of the December 21, 2017 Regular Meeting The minutes were accepted as corrected. PUBLIC FORUM – None CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS – None REPORTS OF COMMITTEES/OFFICERS A. President – None B. Treasurer – A rough draft of the November 30, 2017 was distributed. Interest income was not included. REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR  The Long Range Plan was submitted to the West Virginia Library Commission. The updated personnel policy is being reformatted.  Ron Dulaney, Associate Professor of Interior Design at West Virginia University, visited and toured the Morgantown Public Library, offering suggestions. Sarah Palfrey will be meeting with The Stick Co next week, also.  West Virginia Library Day at the Legislature is Monday, February 5.  Sarah Palfrey will be attending Mon County Day at the Legislature, January 30.  Sarah Palfrey recommends joining the local Chamber of Commerce.  The Morgantown Public Library is partnering with the Monongalia County Child Advocacy Center to provide the Hello Flamingo program (Free Community Yoga for Children (Ages 5-12)).  West Virginia is one of five states chosen to participate in the Leap into Science program which uses a train-the-trainer model. Sarah Palfrey will be travelling to Philadelphia to be trained. The West Virginia Library Commission is giving $1,000 scholarship for travel expenses. Partners with- in the state are the West Virginia - Afterschool Alliance, Pocahontas County Free Libraries, West Virginia University Extension – Huntington, and the Morgantown Public Library.  Beanstack – Morgantown Public Library is signed up for two years with Aaron Johnson, Jay Gummer, and Sarah Palfrey as administrators. In the most basic form, this is an online book log. Staff training will happen the first week of May with registration opening June 1st. Board Minutes – January 18, 2018 – Page 2 UNFINISHED BUSINESS  Long Range Plan – The Long Range Plan has been submitted to the West Virginia Library Commission.  Proposed Lease – The Arnettsville Community Association is reviewing insurance questions that they have.  Plan for review of director – The 6-month review of the director is ready for today.  Clinton District Public Library – The roof repair will begin when the correct weather conditions happen.  Sprucing up Spruce Street – The new adult nonfiction section has been relocated to the immediate left at the top of the stairs. The definition of new is now 6-months.  Building Update – Representatives of the City of Morgantown and West Virginia University will meet next Wednesday to discuss the role of West Virginia University in a new public library building. NEW BUSINESS - None BOARD COMMENTS - None EXECUTIVE SESSION – Personnel  The board adjourned to executive session at 10:19am.  The meeting reconvened at 11:15am. ADJOURNMENT – February 15, 2018 at 9:00am and the Morgantown Public Library were fixed as the time and place of the next regular meeting and the meeting was adjourned at 11:20am.
