MORGANTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Approved 11/15/2018 Minutes of the Regular Meeting October 18, 2018 Present: Absent: Also Present: Others Present: Sue Carpenter Linda Durfee Sarah Palfrey Janet Paine Ellen Hathaway Penny Pugh Judy Panagakos Call to order The Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Morgantown Public Library convened at the Morgantown Public Library, on October 18, 2018. The meeting convened at 9:05 am, Sue Carpenter, Vice-President presiding, Ellen Hathaway, secretary. Approval of the Minutes of the September 20, 2018 Regular Meeting The minutes were approved as corrected. PUBLIC FORUM - None CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS – None REPORTS OF COMMITTEES/OFFICERS A. President – None B. Treasurer – None REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR  Statistical reports for circulation and cataloging were distributed and discussed.  Branch Reports o Clinton District Public Library started a new story time in October, one day a month, morning and evening sessions. The first attempt was very successful, they are working on plans for the next few months. o Cheat Area Public Library created a Story Walk for the Fall Children’s Festival at the WV Botanical Garden, had an adult craft class and a teen writing class.  Morgantown Public Library Programs o Teen card promotion at Suncrest Middle and South Middle Schools is ongoing - more than 250 cards have been created so far. o 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is up and running at all locations.  Seed Library partnership meetings have started (West Virginia University Libraries and Geology & Geography Department) to assign roles for the different entities. At this point, it looks like we may be the physical repository for the collection.  Library Journal Design Institute Meeting was interesting. The overall theme was designing for people and not books.  Service Center Director Meeting discussed broadband and the state contract for internet.  Web page construction is still ongoing.  Fine free policy discussions have been taking place with staff. Most are excited about the possibility, others have raised concerns.  Mandatory Service Center meeting is scheduled for December 3, 2018. All libraries will be closed. Board Minutes – October 18, 2018 – Page 2 UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Proposed lease – Arnettsville - Sarah Palfrey is waiting for a response from Ryan Simonton, City Attorney. 2. Plan for review of director – no update 3. Clinton District Public Library – no update 4. Sick leave – continue discussion at next meeting 5. Levy awareness – no update 6. Vehicle policy – Penny Pugh moved to add the vehicle policy as the last element, 5.7, under the facilities policy. Janet Paine seconded the motion. The motion carried. NEW BUSINESS – None BOARD COMMENTS Janet Paine attended The Women of Appalachia Project, a group of Appalachian women writers. One member showed interest in doing a writing project for the library. Penny Pugh is speaking with a WVU student who is doing a PR project for a class assignment. Penny is hoping to get the information back to the library. ADJOURNMENT – The meeting adjourned at 11:00 am. NEXT MEETING - November 15, 2018 at 9:00am at the Morgantown Public Library.
