Approved February 21, 2019 MORGANTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY Minutes of the Regular Meeting January 17, 2019 Present: Absent: Also Present: Others Present: Sue Carpenter Sarah Palfrey Linda Durfee Kelly Funkhouser Janet Paine Judy Panagakos Penny Pugh Call to order The Regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Morgantown Public Library convened at the Morgantown Public Library, on January 17, 2019. The meeting convened at 9:05am, Linda Durfee, President presiding, Kelly Funkhouser, secretary. Approval of the Minutes of the November 15, 2018 Regular Meeting The minutes were accepted as presented. PUBLIC FORUM - None CORRESPONDENCE AND COMMUNICATIONS – None REPORTS OF COMMITTEES/OFFICERS A. President – None. B. Treasurer – No financial statement distributed. REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR  Website is live.  Seed Preservation Library partnership with WVU’s Geography department is being explored. We will be the physical repository, but most of the collecting and programming will originate from WVU.  Library Appreciation Day and Reception will be February 4 in Charleston, WV.  Monongalia and Preston County Day at the Legislature will be January 22 in Charleston, WV.  All Staff Training Day in December including Preston County libraries staff. Staff continuing education was discussed.  West Virginia Library Commission Summer Reading Program Workshop was held at the Morgantown Public Library. Theme for 2019 is A Universe of Stories.  Patrick Kirby, director of the Northern West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center, and Ron Justice, West Virginia University State and Local Relations Specialist met with the director to talk about the future of this library.  Most of our local legislators came to the library to hear about WVLA’s legislative goals. Much of the discussion centered around broadband coverage. UNFINISHED BUSINESS  Proposed Lease – Arnettsville – The cost to get an appraisal is $4,000. We should be able to get an estimate of market value for $400 to $500.  Plan for review of director – No update. Board Minutes – January 17, 2019 – Page 2 Approved February 21, 2019  Clinton District Public Library – No update.  Sick Leave Reimbursement – Committee appointed to review – Judith Panagakos and Sue Carpenter.  Levy Awareness – There are community people that have expressed interest in participating on a committee. NEW BUSINESS  Resolution Updating Signature Cards/Account Access – Sue Carpenter made the motion to remove Elizabeth McConnell from Morgantown Public Library accounts as signatory. Penny Pugh seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Penny Pugh moved that the board member that is to be include on the Wells Fargo account be Sue Carpenter. Judy Panagakos seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. EXECUTIVE SESSION – Security The board adjourned to executive session at 11:10am. The open meeting reconvened at 11;18am. BOARD COMMENTS – None. ADJOURNMENT – The meeting adjourned at 11:22am. NEXT MEETING - February 21, 2019 at 9:00am at the Morgantown Public Library.
