The Morgantown Pedestrian Safety Board’s mission is to promote a walkable environment throughout the
City by developing safe, attractive, and accessible walkways that connect neighborhoods and destinations.
4:30 pm Call meeting to order
I. Introductions:
Members (Quorum Present 7 of 11): Jen MacDonald, Penny Kostka, George Lilly, Janet
Fraser, Dan Shook, Bill Reger Nash, and Matthew Cross
Ex-officio: Captain McCabe, Don Williams, Bill Kawecki, and Jenny Selin
Guest: Samuel Behanu, Yohanna Berhanu, and Seble Hailin
II. Approval of June 11, 2018, July 9, 2018, and August 13, 2018 Minutes. Passed by
unanimous voice vote.
III. Notes
· Chair Matt Cross:
§ Matt-selection committee voted on proposals from 3 engineering firms for the
combined ped/bike plan.
§ SHARO's are painted on U.Ave and Laurel Street
§ Thanked Don Williams for his cooperative service with the WVDOH
· Captain McCabe- pedestrian crash reported downtown on this day, no details.
· Request for a crosswalk across University Avenue at Riverview Drive by WVU law
student. Terrace Heights has many international engineering students who cross there in
volume. Also a Mountain Line bus shelter
· WVU has PSA on Youtube for new WVU police chief with ped awareness for game
days. Can this be circulated elsewhere? Closed circuit in Mt.Lair has some non audio
PSA's.
· Don Williams: Mon Blvd reconfiguration will have complete sidewalk on the Star City
side from Boyers to Patteson. 705 bidding is going out, work probable in spring 2019,
work will be done at night. Pedestrian seminar planned for December. Boone, North
Carolina is relative model with similar topography.
· National PARKin Day is September 21. 2 parking spaces in front of Jimmy Johns on
High Street will be closed off to promote event.
· October 10 is National Walk to School Day. Dan Shook says this can be coupled with
his Blue Zone effort as elders can provide walking partners for Walking School Busses.
· George Lilly asked Jenny what our advisory board can do to produce more. Bill and
Jenny said more recommendations to the Traffic Commission and ultimately City
Council.
· Bill Reger says he developed program to induce more citizen involvement.
Next meeting: October 8, 2018, Training Room 1, Public Safety Building, 4:30 – 5:30 pm.
