WVDOH Project Updates
As reported by Bill Austin, MMMPO, on 05/25/2021 [edited by staff engineer Drew Gatlin]
University Avenue / Collins Ferry Road Intersection Improvement
• This project involves the reconstruction of this intersection into a roundabout.
• There have been two properties in dispute slowing progress on this project.
o WVDOH has been granted access to one property.
o There will be a legal (non-public) hearing on 6/14 for the other property.
Van Voorhis Road Improvement from Burroughs Street to West Run Road
• This project involves lane widening / standardization, sidewalk construction, and shoulder construction.
• WVDOH has requested titles for acquired rights-of-way.
• WVDOH expects construction to begin in 2023.
West Run Road Widening from Stewartstown Road to Point Marion Road
• This project includes lane widening, shoulder construction, and intersection redesign (at Point Marion
Road)
• WVDOH has acquired 99% of necessary rights-of-way.
• WVDOH currently resolving an issue with FAA.
Beechurst Avenue Spot Improvement Projects b/t Fayette Street and Campus Drive
• City and WVU are finalizing a land swap at Campus Drive / McLane Avenue.
• City, WVU, and WVDOH are finalizing discussions on Campus / Beechurst intersection abd wall design.
• WVDOH expects construction to begin Spring 2022.
Mileground Road Expansion
• WVDOH is still acquiring rights-of-way.
• WVDOH has granted notices to proceed on limited utility relocations.
Greenbag Road Improvements
• WVDOH expects a “Finding of No Significant Impacts” (FONSI) from FHWA imminently.
• Recommended project is consistent with the environmental assessment on WVDOH website.
