MTB 2/24/14 1 Morgantown Tree Board (MTB) Minutes, meeting of February 24, 2014 Present: MTB members Katherine Payne, Dan Brown, Dave Barnett, Greg Dahle, Brent Bailey, Secretary Jon Weems, and Chair Kara Hurst, and city employee Marchetta Maupin. The Chair called the meeting to order at 4:38 PM in City Council chambers and noted that a quorum was present. Old Business 1. Tree Maintenance Contract Work. D. Barnett obtained bids for Demonstration City grant pruning of High Street trees, all less than 30 feet tall, from Ken Beezley and Bartlett. Bartlett actually submitted two bids, one for the pruning and one for emerald ash borer (EAB) treatment of some city-owned ash trees in the wharf district. Beezley submitted a lower bid for pruning only. Extensive discussion ensued. It was determined that grant money could only be used for pruning, but there was some flexibility as to exactly what trees to prune. A few trees on Walnut and Pleasant Streets could be added. Consensus was reached to hire Bartlett because their crew could complete the work quickly, and to consider Beezley for unspecified future pruning. EAB treatment of ash trees on Wharf St. may be pursued at a later date. D. Barnett moved, and D. Brown seconded, that Bartlett be hired for the Demonstration City grant pruning. The motion carried by a majority. 2. South University Park. All landscaping plans, including a possible Roh tree planting, continue to be on hold pending resolution of the power plant proposal. J. Weems moved, and K. Payne seconded, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 6:05 PM. __________________________________ Jon Weems
