Tree Board minutes 07/23/18 Morgantown Tree Board (MTB) Minutes, meeting of July 23, 2018 City Council chambers, 4:30 PM 1. ATTENDANCE: MTB members Dan Brown, Phil Crim, Jonathan Cumming, Greg Dahle, Donna Marie Foster, Secretary Jon Weems, and Chair Dave Barnett, City Council liaison Rachel Fetty, and Urban Landscape Director Marchetta Maupin. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: D. Brown moved, and D. Barnett seconded, that previously approved minutes of the 3/26/18 meeting be amended. Motion passed. 3. REPORT FROM M. MAUPIN: M. Maupin updated MTB on her urban forest activities. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. Memorial tree policy: This agenda item was tabled to devote more meeting time to other matters. B. City Forester job description: M. Maupin distributed a list of discussion points. Subsequent discussion included education and certification requirements, and duties to be listed in the description. 5. NEW BUSINESS: A. Sycamore, Jack Roberts Park: After a review of arborist assessments of this declining tree, G. Dahle moved and D. Brown seconded that the sycamore be removed and a suitable replacement tree planted. The motion passed. B. New tree ordinance. Having previously received copies of the comprehensive tree ordinance of Atlanta GA, MTB members brainstormed much more limited requirements for Morgantown. It was agreed that arborist firms working in the City should be required to have on staff at least one arborist certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Other possibilities mentioned included licensing and permits. R. Fetty agreed to seek input from the Parking Authority and check on the legality of possible requirements discussed. 4.
