Tree Board minutes 11/23/20 Morgantown Tree Board (MTB) Minutes, meeting of November 23, 2020 Via Zoom, 4:30 PM, but getting the Secretary into the Zoom meeting took until 4:57. 1. ATTENDANCE: MTB members Donna Marie Foster, Secretary Jon Weems, Chair Dave Barnett, and Urban Landscape Director Marchetta Maupin. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Without a quorum, no motions were made, no votes were taken, and no minutes were approved. 3. REPORT FROM M. MAUPIN: City Arborist Scott Cline was back on the job and busy with GIS meetings after extended leave. His job for the foreseeable future was anticipated to involve less landscape maintenance than before, and instead to emphasize tree inventory, hazard tree identification, and related work. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. White Park. There were unconfirmed reports of a large tree having been cut down by one or more unknown persons. No details were available. D. Foster shared a promising but incomplete draft of a spec sheet for the anticipated contracting out of tree and shrub planting. This was favorably received and believed to be suitable as a template for future contracts. B. 430 Spruce Street Pocket Park. Revised plans for this area near the farmers’ market were discussed. Concern was expressed about this being in a location with a high risk of vandalism. It was suggested that yews might be preferable to the boxwoods shown on the plans. 6. NEW BUSINESS: None. 7. OPEN DISCUSSION: Trees to be saved along the rail-trail in the Waterfront area had been marked with purple flagging. The plan was to mark trees to be removed from an adjacent area with white paint. M. Maupin said she could provide the paint. 8. NEXT MEETING: To be determined. 9. ADJOURN: The meeting ended at 5:47 without formal adjournment.
