URBAN LANDSCAPE COMMISSION Wednesday, August 27, 2014 MINUTES ATTENDANCE: Kara Hurst, Marchetta Maupin, Damien Davis (Interim PW Director), University Place Representative Aaron Humberson, Nancy Ganz, Bill Kawecki, Cindy Fike, Kitty Lozier, Brenda Shinkovich, Michael Hasenmyer, Diane Tominaga, Jamie Lester APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was not a quorum present at the prior meeting in May, so no minutes were recorded. PRESENTATION: University Place Landscape Plan Review: University Place Landscape Design was presented. It was recommended that the University Avenue side of design incorporate trees into the rain gardens because the tree pit placement is too close to the curb. Also, it was recommended that a smaller tree species be planted. Zelkova trees are too large for the area. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: A. Public Safety Building Plaza: A plaza design was viewed and discussed by the Commission, sculptor, and statue fundraiser. B. University Avenue & Stewart St. Corner Landscape Design: Commission is awaiting utility surveys. C. Walnut Streetscape Project: No new report. BOPARC REPORT: None PROJECTS REPORT: Urban Landscape Superintendent reported that staff is assisting w/ Arbor Day tree planting. Staff has removed dying shrubs & weeds then distributed grass seed & straw. TREE BOARD REPORT: Arbor Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th at 9:00 a.m. at the stairway leading to Richwood Avenue, next to Unity Manor behind Dairy Mart.
