URBAN LANDSCAPE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 24, 2014 4:30 p.m. - Public Safety Building Conf. Room 1. ATTENDANCE: Kara Hurst, Steve McBride, Melissa Burch, Kitty Lozier, Michael Hasenmyer, Marchetta Maupin, Nancy Ganz, Bill Kawecki, David Weaver & Mike Arnold (AECOM), WVU Student Visitors: Andrew Osborne & Eric Dillemuth 2. PRESENTATION: Walnut Streetscape David Weaver, Senior Project Manager & Mike Arnold, Registered Landscape Architect with AECOM presented current plans for Walnut Streetscape. Potential assets and problems of vaults/basement extensions were described. The possibility of utilities being buried underground were discussed. If lines are left, the idea of planting trees on the side of street with no lines is a consideration. Tree species selections of RLA were given. Ex-officio guided AECOM representatives to the City Recommended Tree List. AECOM will meet with Morgantown Tree Board. 3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:: A. Public Safety Building Plaza - ULC Landscape Architect Michael Hasenmyer will present the Public Safety Building Plaza Design concept at this month’s Committee of the Whole meeting. B. University & Stewart St. Corner Landscape Design - Commission Chair is awaiting the next step 4. BOPARC REPORT: Arrangements were made through the previous BOPARC Director to accept donation of a large clock for Hazel Ruby McQuain Park. ULC Chair & current BOPARC Director will visit park to scope site for placement. 5. ULC PROJECTS REPORT: Urban Landscape Superintendent reported the flowering baskets will be taken down by mid-October. 6. TREE BOARD REPORT: City Manager met with WV Radio Corporation to discuss Decker’s Creek trees and a plan for pruning and liability for damage that might result in the future. Arbor Day is planned for Saturday at Richwood Avenue pedestrian stairs. 7. PROUD OF OUR TOWN AWARDS: The award for Jones Avenue residence was given Sept. 10 and appeared in Dominion Post on Sept. 11. 8. COUNCIL UPDATE: No Report Meeting Adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
