Multipurpose Bldg, Woodburn School
Morgantown, WV
7PM
Attendance: Chris Haddox, Marti Shamberger, Maryangel Blount, Kerry Lilly, Mark Furfari,
Tim Mashburn
Announcements/Correspondence
Chris: Heard from WVU service folks. They will send me some information (an MOU) about
how to use them. A service session is planned for Monday 3:30 - 6:30 with 10-15 ppl. I will
be there. Grounds clean, MP bldg cleanup.
Marti: I will be there 3:30 - 4:30.
Chris: Brian Helmich atty…his law firm may partner with us (Spillman Thomas and Battle) to
support the redevelopment. They want to “own an event”, maybe first fridays. Pay the artist
a small fee or more advertisement?
Chris: Brian has state office experience. We may want to have a brainstorming session with
him.
Group: Supports Chris working with him.
Chris: Met with Dave Satterfield to approach BOE for a new negotiation. It will be important
to summarize impact of the site on the current tenants. For example, the $70K mortgage
payment next year would serve better if they went into the building.
Marti: I talked to Joe Statler, an ex-board member. He said to get a letter together to present
to the BOE. He might also help finding funding for emergency projects like the school
furnace. We could give him a letter to pass to the House of Delegates.
Chris: B & G club will have a lights on after school Oct. 23. Could be a good time to get info
for a BOE presentation.
Discussion: Can we inform Fleischauer, Beach and Statler about these issues? City may
have to step up too. School levee may be part of this issue.
Old and New Business
Discussion: What about the MP Bldg? Should we keep it free of long term tenants so it can
be open for varied use?
Vote: The board passed a resolution to recommend that the MP Bldg be not rented out long
term.
Discussion: Upcoming first friday. Randy and Daria Jones, Marti and Maryangel will host.
Maryangel will make a flyer. Jim Truman will do November, Sugar Maple in December, Feb.
WVU Bluegrass, nothing in January. March Karaoke?
Discussion: New fence on Charles Ave. Kerry says it may be too close to the road.
Conclusion that it’s not a perfect fence, but we have one now.
Discussion: HVAC issues in the school. Nothing definitive right now.
Kerry: On the playground redevelopment, Nikki still talking to some folks about that.
Chris: More on the water park. Sandy Kress could create some sculptures that would be a
part of that. Art-oriented design contest with money for the winner?
Marti: Put out RFP for public? Art On Rails.
Discussion: We should start talking to artists around town.
Chris: Pop Shop is doing well and will discuss the bldg sharing with the B&G Club.
Discussion: Could FODC go into the modular?
Mark: Elevator. No progress with Schindler. Hydraulic should be most reasonable for the
school with a 2500 lb limit and an 8x6 Hoistway. Two hour fire rating. Car is the most
expensive part at $65K.
Adjourn at 8PM for tour of Pop Shop.
