Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission Minutes of Thursday February 23, 2017 Members present: Chris Haddox, Kevin Cross, Kerry Lilly, Nikki Byrne-Hoffman, Emily Vasile, Marti Shamberger. Guest Evan Fedorko The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:05 The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented. Chris reminded the group to complete the Doodle poll that Mary Angel had sent out to determine the best date to meet for March and April. Denny Poluga, Mary Angel Blount, Kerry Lily and Nikki Byrne Hoffman attended the February 14 Board of Education meeting regarding the playground improvement project. The BOE had a question about what role the City would play in the project and who else would be contributing to the project. The Commission would gather more information from Your Community Trust for possible funding and the City. The estimated cost of the repair to the roof of the building is $70,000. Discussions with the City about the process for getting this fix are ongoing. March Westin has expressed an interest in helping with the repair. Chris will be meeting with the new City Manager Paul Brake on Wednesday March 8 to discuss the Woodburn Commission. Nikki was working on the possibility of a “Friends of Woodburn Group”. Marti agreed to send the contact information from YCT to Nikki. Discussion was held about rebranding the name of the building i.e. Woodburn non-profit center etc. Chris was going to attend the Rotary Board meeting on February 28 for help with playground project at Woodburn. Kevin brought a copy of the Mylan Corporate form which can be used to request funding for projects. Emily agreed to manage the Woodburn Commission Facebook page. Evan talked about sharing photos of Woodburn for a possible photo essay in the Dominion Post. Discussion was held about the disassembling and replacing the Mural inside the multipurpose building. Members were asked to think of where the mural should be placed around the building. A discussion about improving the drainage on the playground. BOPARC had agreed tohelp with the digging of the ditch and the possibility of volunteers from the Green Space Coalition would help lay the pipe. Nikki said there is a $8,000 grant for a sunshade structure from the American Association of Dermatology. Emily agreed to put together a google document which would reflect a task list that members could add comments, including timelines. The next meeting will be held March 23 at 6:00 p.m. place to be determined. The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
