Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission
Minutes of Thursday February 28, 2019
Members present: Chris Haddox, Marti Shamberger, Evan Fedorko.
The meeting was called to order by Chair Chris Haddox at 6:00 p.m. at Woodburn School.
The November and January minutes were not approved due to lack of a quorum. (There were no minutes
from December due to the meeting being cancelled).
Guests: John and Danielle Trumble, Summer Philips Americorp worker with the Brownfield Group, Nick
Adams from the Boys and Girls Club, Chris Russel from the PopShop and Vickie Trickett from MT
Pockets.
Chair Chris Haddox called the meeting to order and introduced the visitors and tenants of the building.
Discussion was held about planning the event on April 27 from 1-4 p.m. focusing on what goes on at the
Woodburn School site and why it is important. The following ideas from the tenants were offered: MT
Pockets could have a puppet show and possibly car plays; Pop Shop could feature their bands; Boys and
Girls Club would have some activities and cleaning and planting of the flower beds; Summer would
coordinate a cleanup at the site for the day; FDOC may do a science project; the building would be open
to feature inside artwork as well as a display of historical pictures of the site when it was a school. The
response to the renaming of the site on Facebook was low, so a suggestion will be taken during the event
also.
Vicki Trickett would get contact information for a food truck. Chris Russel indicated that they had some
generators for electric outside.
Chris Haddox would work with John Trumble to develop a Google doc which people could update.
Several vacancies exist on the Commission, members were encouraged to suggest people to serve.
The Mills Group was selected for the ADA scope of work at the site.
A grant application was sent to the County Commission for funding.
Danielle Trumble is hoping to contact the Woodburn Neighborhood FB group to solicit interest in the
Friends of Woodburn group. She has also been in contact with Richard Dalton WAN to coordinate a
Woodburn Neighborhood Association meeting.
John Trumble met with Jesse Heady who is part of the Arts Monongalia collaboration about the
possibility of a mural on the back of the gym building. John prepared a summary of his meeting with
Jesse detailing opportunities and costs.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be March 28, 2019@ 6 p.m. at Woodburn School.
