Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission Minutes of Thursday July 25, 2019 Members present: John Trumble, Marti Shamberger, Chris Haddox The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:00 p.m. at Woodburn School. Guests: Danielle Trumble from WAN and Friends of Woodburn, Carla Myers a parent of Boys and Girls Club children/WAN VP, and Paul Brake, City Manager. The minutes of the June meeting were not approved due to lack of a quorum. The Commission is made of up of seven members. The current vacancy is being advertised on the City website and current Commission members should encourage people who are interested to apply. Chris Haddox summarized his conversation with Denny Poluga, Director of the Boys and Girls Club regarding the closure of the BG Club for the rest of the summer. The National BG Club issued a closure for the local chapter until operational and facility items be corrected. Carla Myers spoke as a parent of children who attend the BG Club and all of the great things they do. The lack of their presences was a struggle for parents to find care for their children. The BG Club hoped to let parents know if it will be reopened by August 20. Paul Brake indicated that no one from the BG Club had reached out to the City with facility items to be corrected. Discussion was held with Paul Brake concerning the PopShop walk through, as well as, code and fire violations. The Commission express its frustration of not being informed of the process and notifications. A combination of the Assistant City Manager going on maternity leave and the City Manager on a professional development at the same time turned into a breakdown of communication with the commission and the tenants of the site. The City Manager apologized for that happening. The Commission was told that the point of contact for them with the City would be the Assistant City Manager. The City Manager shared a copy of the proposed ADA improvements bid call (see attached). Chris Haddox was still working on contacts for the pavilion drainage on the playground. It was suggested that the Fall Block party maybe turn into WAN neighborhood picnic. Danielle Trumble would include the item on the next WAN meeting agenda. There has been no word on the grant application to Dominion Hope. The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m. The next meeting will be August 29, 2019@ 6 p.m. at Woodburn School.
