Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission Minutes of Thursday August 26, 2021 Members present: Chris Haddox, John Trumble, Marti Shamberger, Marly Hazen Ynigues, Danielle Trumble, City Councilor, Evan Fedorko, Guest, Karla Meyers, President of WAN The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:04 p.m. via ZOOM. The minutes were accepted as corrected. Building updates Status of old tenants. The Assistant City Manager is working with the Boys and Girls Club to finalize their property being removed from the school property. The AC in the MT Pockets building needs replaced. The lighting in the PopShop is moving slowly. Status of new tenants The Shack has not officially moved in to date. The City is working with the County Health Department on having the kitchen inspected. Marchetta Maupin the Director of Urban Landscape is working with the Shack on some plantings. She has also marked trees that will need removed. Mountaineer Home School Hub has moved in and started classes. They hosted an open house on August 14 from 1-4 p.m. which was well attended by the community, and potential homeschool parents and students. Playground the City is gathering information about equipment for playground improvements, as well as developing a survey for input about the playground. Rebranding Marly gave an update of the meeting with Andrew Stacey, Director of Communications. The importance of a Vision and Mission statement would be the root of rebranding the site. Chris suggested that everyone work on a Vision and Mission statement to discuss at the next meeting, Discussion was held about what to call the site. After reviewing previously submitted names, it was unanimously agreed that “Woodburn” be included in the name. After further discussion, it was unanimously agreed to submit the name “The Woodburn Community Complex” to the Assistant City Manager. The commissioners also agreed that the name of the Commission will also be changed. Mural update- John had an informal meeting with Vincent Kitch, Director of Art and Culture was aware of the building at Woodburn. An application will be made to a grant program, Art to Kids Spaces for funding the mural. John sent Vincent the size of 32 ft x 18 ft space located on back of the gym building facing the playground. Vincent would oversee the grant and the mural. The Commission agreed to have Chris send a thank you to the Assistant City Manager for the city’s investment and continuing attention to the Woodburn site. The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. The next schedule meeting is September 30, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
