Minutes of Thursday September 30, 2021
Members present: Chris Haddox, John Trumble, Marti Shamberger, Marly Hazen Ynigues, Ron Dulaney,
Danielle Trumble, City Councilor, Guest Hailie Cavender WVU Student attending for a media writing
class.
The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:03 p.m. via ZOOM. The minutes were accepted as
presented.
Building updates: Status updates with tenants. The Assistant City Manager is working to have the Boys
and Girls club vehicles on the property removed. A motion to support the city’s removal of the vehicles
was made by Marly and seconded by John, passed unanimously. The kitchen area passed the health
department inspection as well as the fire department inspection. Inspection is pending by the state
licensing board for childcare facilities.
Outside grounds update: The playground survey conducted by the City resulted in 50-60 responses. The
Assistant City Manager is working on the bid information for improvements to the playground. A knife
and capped syringe were found in the wooden play fort on the playground on Sunday 9/26. Members felt
that this was a onetime occurrence. The trees that have been designated for removal on the property, have
not been remove.
Mural-Vincent Kitch, Director of Art and Culture is applying for a grant to fund a mural at the school.
Rebranding - “The Woodburn Community Complex” name for the site was submitted to the Assistant
City Manager and accepted. The name change will be brought to City Council in an informational report
by the Assistant City Manager.
Chris was going to ask the City if the roof repairs could be done before winter.
John agreed to give the Commission update at the WAN meeting on October 6th.
Marly will update the Facebook page and the website with the new commission name.
Marti agreed to send out a google doc with suggestions for a Mission statement.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
The next schedule meeting is October 28, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.
