Woodburn Commission

Woodburn Community Complex Commission Minutes of Thursday October 28, 2021 Members present: Chris Haddox, John Trumble, Evan Fedorko, Marly Hazen Ynigues, Ron Dulaney, Danielle Trumble, City Councilor. Guests Clark Creamer and Shawnda Cook of the Shack Neighborhood House were also in attendance. The meeting was called to order by Chris Haddox at 6:00 PM via Zoom. The minutes were accepted as presented. Evan Fedorko volunteered to take minutes for the meeting. The Shack: Chris Haddox introduced Clark Creamer and Shawnda Cook of the Shack Neighborhood House and briefly described the issues that Clark and Shawnda wished to discuss with the Commission, specifically the City’s request to the Shack that feeding programs conducted by the Shack at the Woodburn Community Complex be “limited to participants of on- site programming.” Clark and Shawnda provided additional context for the history and current nature and design of feeding programs being undertaken by their organization. Emails between City of Morgantown and The Shack (dated July 22, 2021) were shared with the Commission. Shawnda and Clark recounted the history of visiting the building and negotiating with the City of Morgantown including assurances that the kitchen would be ready for use when the Shack moved in, but this has not been the case. This has snowballed into other licensing delays for the Shack. Discussion continued along with questions clarifying the actions taken thus far. The Commission ultimately recommended that Shawnda convene a meeting with the City, with 2 commission members volunteering to also attend. Building and Playground Updates: Chris Haddox informed the commission that, to his understanding, the RFP for the new playground will be made public on or around November 1, 2021. The roof project will be pushed out to 2022. The vehicle owned by the former Boys and Girls Club continues to sit at the building and nobody will respond to inquiries. The City continues to try to make contact. Vision and Mission Statement: The Commission discussed (and completed) minor revisions to the vision and mission statements to more closely align with our intended message. A motion to accept the edits was made and seconded and unanimously passed. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. The next scheduled meeting is December 16, 2021.
